All eyes turn to Sandown Park on Saturday night for the world’s greatest greyhound race – the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup.

This is a race for the elite. 64 greyhounds competed in eight heats last Saturday night, only the winners making it through to the $760,000 event run over the 515-metre distance.

One of the sports best kennels – Team Thompson of Awesome Lodge, have the two fancied runners in Joey The Jet (1) and Explicit (6).

"Joey The Jet is a dog who has a lot of x factor about him and is certainly a real Melbourne Cup dog," trainer Jason Thompson said.

"Drawn where he is, I think he is going to be a big player."

Joey The Jet is one month shy of his second birthday and boasts an impressive record of seven wins from his nine career starts and is undefeated from box one, his Melbourne Cup draw.
