Ashleigh's Major trip down to Melton ends in Delight

NSW reinswoman Ashleigh Delosa enjoyed a successful hit-and-run visit to Melton when she steered Major Delight to an all-the-way victory in the Garrard's Jane Ellen Mares Free For All on Saturday night.

Delosa allowed Major Delight time to balance before working around to the lead with 1600 metres to travel and the result was never in doubt thereafter, with the four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight scoring from Rakero Rebel and Soho Historia.

The 26-year-old Delosa made it back-to-back wins on the four-times Group 1-winning mare after partnering her to victory at Menangle the previous week.

"With Mark Pitt and Kate Gath away, I got the call to come down and drive her again," Delosa said.

Delosa said it was a career highlight to team up with Major Delight.

"She is the best horse I've sat behind and it feels like driving a motor car," she said.

Delosa said it wasn't an armchair ride behind Major Delight on Saturday night.

"She can get a bit lazy and you have to keep her mind on the job, but she never lets them get past her," she said.

An avid lover of horses, Delosa concedes she had little knowledge of the sport prior to working for Queensland trainer Grant Dixon six years ago.

"I didn't know what harness racing was before then, I just wanted to work with horses," she said.

Delosa relocated to Sydney with her partner Chris Geary four years ago and now has 102 career wins beside her name.
