A chance at harness racing riches awaits Dukes Choice

A golden ticket into the world’s richest harness race is on offer for the Samantha Gangell-prepared Dukes Choice after the four-year-old gained a start in Saturday night’s The Beautide in Tasmania.

The winner of the $80,000 event will fill the TasRacing slot in September's $2.1 million TAB Eureka. Last year's Beautide winner Magician finished fourth.

Gangell, 25, is a Tasmanian herself and will stay with family in the lead-up to Saturday night's feature.

"He will head down later in the week to my step dad's place in Hobart," Gangell said.

"I have been speaking with Liam Older who drove him last start at Melton and he is going to come down and drive him for me," she said.

The now Cranbourne-based trainer is looking forward to chasing a start in one of the world's premier harness races.

"He has really earned his spot and he has been a really exciting horse; I am looking forward to Saturday night," she said.

"It's fantastic to have a horse that is eligible to go in these sorts of races - he is good enough to be there. It would be incredible if he was lucky enough to go to The Eureka.

"To be a part of that race (The Eureka) would be incredible."

The winner of seven races from 37 starts has drawn six for the 2090m event.

"It's a tricky draw. I'm not 100 per cent sure what we are going to do yet. Whether we go forward or back, he can do both," she said.

"I will just leave that up to Liam and see what we want to do."

Fellow Victorian, the Jess Tubbs-trained Fighter Command, has drawn two and will likely start a warm favourite in The Beautide.
