Best From The West: Ascot – 14th October 2023

We are back at Ascot for Summer and some good racing awaits as they look to watch their elite mare Amelia’s Jewel from afar.

The Max Simmonds Stakes is the main race and the best one in terms of form with plenty of 3yos coming off wins.

One of those is Petula for that man Simon Miller who has four entered in the race and with Patrick Carbery on her, that might be a good indication.

She had two runs back in May winning them both with the more impressive one here over 1100m.

Leading that day, she could again here or worse be outside lead. But sitting on the limit weight, that won't harm her.

There will be a big focus on those who contested the important 2yo races of their season but she is a value hope.

Earlier in the day there is a young horse taking on the older ones as Pleasure Cruise tries to hold onto his unbeaten record as well.

Twice he sat just off the pace at Belmont and twice he got the job done back in September in a couple of quick outings.

He's now had a little bit more time between runs and sitting right down in the weights, he could simply go on his winning ways.

William Pike in these colours is never a bad combination.
