Consistent gelding Maracourt ready to get rewarded for his efforts at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

We look to keep our powder dry early at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, before launching into the last two on the card.

It's in the last where we have landed on Maracourt from the Michael Hickmott yard as this week's best bet and after a string of solid efforts this campaign, he's ready to get paid.

Admittedly, he may have forgotten what the winner's enclosure looks like but gee-whiz he has been a model of consistency for the Hickmott team.

Since running to a rating of 84 on the Racing and Sports scale when saluting in this grade 370 days ago, the four-year-old has run to within five pounds of that figure in 7/8 of his proceeding efforts, which includes his peak rating of 85 two starts ago.

He lugs the top weight but on his form he well and truly deserves to. I don't expect him to have to go to any new levels to earn himself a well-deserved victory.

As for the best value play, we head to the penultimate race (8) where I think Favourite Child can run a big race at nice each-way odds.

This four-year-old Dundeel mare from the W Clarken & N O'Shea team was luckless last start when going untested to the line over the final 200m at Murray Bridge. Only beaten 2.1L in seventh, the mare looked to have plenty to offer in the lane but failed to get a fair crack at them and had she did I'm sure she goes close to winning.

Sent back to the trials between runs where she was a nice winner at Gawler, Favourite Child gets in low at the weights with the slight rise in grade, the only knock comes with the wide draw.

With even luck she can figure right in the finish.
