MOONEE VALLEY

Group 1 - Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes

(3yo+ WFA - 1200m)

Race Result:

1st: Southport Tycoon (Ciaron Maher/Mark Zahra) - $21
2nd: Growing Empire (Ciaron Maher/Craig Williams) - $3.80F
3rd: I WIsh I Win (Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman/Luke Nolen) - $5

Winning Time: 1:09.91    Last 600m: N/A

Margins: ½ Head x 2L

Beaten jockey comments:

Luke Nolen (I Wish I Win): "Terrific. We just didn't get a drag into the race like we probably thought, well, like we hoped we wouldn't win pre-race, but he's run sensational. Bring on the Everest."

Damian Lane (Veight): "He ran a lot better than where he finished, just too sharp for him at this level, 1,200. Up in troops slightly, he'll be much better."

Michael Dee (Recommendation): "I'd say he's probably come to the end of his prep. He's had a great prep on top of the ground tonight.Probably didn't suit him, but I still thought he ran well enough."

Ben Melham (Johnny Rocker): "Just reared as the gates opened and it was pretty much game over for him. Ran well."

Josh Parr (Caballus): "He flew the gate, we sat in the 1-1 in a good position and he wasn't able to take advantage of that."

Blake Shinn (Estriella): "Looked disappointing on face value. Had to use a little bit of petrol to cross but I was happy to be in the race, travelled well, didn't find as much as I thought, laid in a bit in the straight. May be better suited like Flemington or a bigger track.

Jason Collett (Kimochi): "Brave. She had a wide run, but stuck on really well."

Daniel Stackhouse (Climbing Star): "Yeah, super run, really happy. We'll see her return tonight. She's run really well."

Kerrin McEvoy (Coleman): "He ran well. He showed nice improvement in his first up run. He's going to enjoy getting back on a bigger track than mine, so he's handling himself really well."

Craig Williams (Growing Empire): "He was certainly gallant in defeat today. First time up against those horses. You can see why Ciaron brought him here. The blinkers have worked to switch him on. There's a bit of pressure early. Probably made us a little bit vulnerable late. It was a good, tough, strong horse, an older horse that beat us in the wire, but he's only going to improve from that experience. He was very gallant in defeat. It's a shame we didn't hold on

Jamie Kah (Hayasugi): " Just an off day for her, I guess."

ROSEHILL

Group 1 - James Squire Golden Rose

(3yo SW - 1400m)

Race Result:

1st: Broadsiding (J Cummings/J McDonald) - $2.15F
2nd: Traffic Warden (J Cummings/B Melham) - $6.50
3rd: Mayfair (G Waterhouse & A Bott/B Shinn) - $21

Winning Time: 1:22.69 Last 600m: 34.58

Margins: Head x Long Head

Beaten jockey comments:

Ben Melham (Traffic Warden): "He ran terrific. He had a good run. Attacked the line well. Just a bit awkward in his action on the shifty ground. But he got beaten by a good one."

Adam Hyeronimus (Storm Boy): "I thought he has gone fantastic. Just had to roll a little more than anticipated after a furlong. Ben rode his horse well and was a little bit cheeky just jamming into the rail. Forced them to take a hold so I had to roll in front of those horses. He's gone really well. Maybe when doing that bit of work rolling into it. They have some decisions to make to go forward as to which race they go. I don't have a problem with either one."

Kerrin McEvoy (Linebacker): "He was a little bit of a lad today. He jumped out and I expected him to travel a bit better through the race. I think he is better than he showed there today. Look for him to bounce back into the next one."

Tim Clark (Anode): "He bounced well and put himself into a good position. Wasn't able to capitalise on that."

Tommy Berry (Fearless): Horse bled

Blake Shinn (Mayfair): "He was great. I had a good run, presented to win and got beaten by two top class 3yos. He was gallant."

Nash Rawiller (Emirate): "He is a lovely colt. A wonderful attitude. Beaten a couple of lengths here today. I felt like he was still hitting the line well. His last 100m was probably the best part of his race. When they quickened they've dragged that turn of foot out of him a bit. He is worth following."

Mark Zahra (Tropicus): "He is still very green. A bit keen early and just didn't get around the home turn like I wanted to."

Craig Williams (Clear Proof): "Unfortunately not there today. I placed him under pressure in today's race. He wanted to go left with me. Will be interesting to see how he comes through the race."

Group 2 - Racing And Sports Golden Pendant

(3yo+ F&M SW&P - 1400m)

Race Result:

1st: Makarena (M, J & W Hawkes/Z Lloyd) - $4.60
2nd: Amelia's Jewel (A Neasham & R Archibald/T Berry) - $2.80F
3rd: Arctic Glamour (G Ryan & S Alexiou/K McEvoy) - $9.50

Winning Time: 1:23.12 Last 600m: 33.99

Margins: 1¼L x ½ Neck

Beaten jockey comments:

Adam Hyeronimus (Tropical Squall): "Today was D-Day. Probably didn't go as well as she can. If she did she beats those horses. I guess they'll look at her future now."

Tommy Berry (Amelia's Jewel): "Not disappointed in her at all. Disappointed to get beaten. I thought we were close enough to the winner at the top of the straight if we were there to win. It felt like she was looking for a mile today. Even though the track is drying out, it has been well documented on firm ground is where she is best suited. We'll let the dust settle, proud of her efforts and see where we go from there."

Josh Parr (Lekvarte): "Fantastic. I'd say she gets her bread and butter set up next time out up to 1600m, second up. She's in good shape."

Dylan Gibbons (Semana): "Didn't jump, didn't muster and then it was too tough from there."

Kerrin McEvoy (Arctic Glamour): "She ran well. It was the best she has travelled actually. A little bit closer than normal. She gave me a good feel hitting the line."

Tyler Schiller (Sounds Of Heaven): "I thought she ran really well. She probably got outsprinted at the top of the straight. Her last 100m was really impressive."

Group 2 - Canadian Club Shannon Stakes

(3yo+ Quality - 1500m)

Race Result:

1st: Amor Victorious (B Baker/T Schiller) - $8.50
2nd: Punch Lane (A & S Freedman/K Wilson-Taylor) - $14
3rd: New Endeavour (G Waterhouse & A Bott/A Hyeronimus) - $26

Winning Time: 1:29.06 Last 600m: 35.03

Margins: ½L x ¾L

Besten jockey comments:

Kerrin McEvoy (Celestial Legend): "We wanted to begin better than that. Disappointing to see him sluggish into stride and back last. He ground his way home. I was expecting a better finish. I know we had a penalty. I know he has won at Rosehill as well but he could be a horse who enjoys a bigger track like Randwick as well.'

Craig Williams (Freedom Rally): "Today he gave me a great ride from an inside barrier draw with the blinkers off. Really solid in defeat today."

Adam Hyeronimus (New Endeavour): "Made good improvement from his first up run. Great run today. Hill Stakes will suit him down to the ground."

James McDonald (Osipenko): "He is going really well the horse. Just needs a barrier to put him into the race."

Mark Zahra (Unspoken): "No good today."

Josh Parr (Bandersnatch): "We didn't see the best of him today."

Blake Shinn (New Energy): "I couldn't get cover from the awkward draw in a leader dominated race. He ran well, going well."

Tim Clark (Bases Loaded): "He got across outside the leader. I did expect a little bit more from him but in saying that, he wasn't beaten far and has improvement to come."

Kyle Wilson-Taylor (Punch Lane): "He is a good horse. We saw a glimpse of that. That will bring him right on. Really looking forward to sticking with him and seeing where he ends up this Spring."

Dylan Gibbons (Charterhouse): "They might have to try something new with him. He was happy to follow them around."
