Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - JANNY (3) just missed first-up and then found more like her best leading and winning here. Pike sticks aboard and fitter she can go right on with it. JAZ SESSION (6) also races forward and won comfortably on the Scarpside first-up. Will be further improved and also has winning claims. RED SQUARE (1) resumes and is up to this if presented forward. Has trialled solidly and has earned top weight. OCEAN OUTLAW (5) resumed with a solid effort at Ascot and has plenty up the sleeve. Keep onside.
RACE 2 - CHAMPAGNE STREET (10) resumes for a leading metro barn and missed a lip at Ascot before the break. Pike is a key jockey booking and the filly should be further improved. She finds a very winnable race. BRAVE SHOT (4) is also in a top barn and will be better for the two runs this preparation. Has more to offer and CJP goes aboard. A quinella hope. ORTABEAROCKSTAR (8) got closer at Ascot and dropping back to the shorter sprint shouldn't bother. Will race forward and won't be far away. SPECIAL STREET (3) will find this easier than Ascot and his best would have him around the mark.
RACE 3 - CITINO (2) did a big job at Ascot and then just missed here in a CL3 over this distance. Is suited under the race conditions and Chris Parnham sticks aboard. The one to beat. SHOULDER PATCH (4) has placed both starts back without threatening but has plenty up the sleeve and will be a lot sharper today at the mile. Has a tricky gate but is in good hands. ARAFISIO (7) ran her best race beaten 1.5L at Belmont over this distance. Has a handy barrier and can get some of the money. WHAITIRI (6) missed 1L to back on the Scarpside and that's the best measure of her chances.
RACE 4 - WATCH ME ROCK (5) resumes for a top metro barn and showed enough his initial preparation to say this is winnable. Pike is reunited and he owns a Lark Hill trial win. Will be naturally improved and take beating. DIAMOND LIGHT (12) rates the quinella building on the near miss at Scarpside when she surprised the market. She will be fitter again and can control the race jumping from the rails gate. Will give a sight. DEVILS I (6) was tacking okay before the flop at Narrogin over a longer trip. CJP goes on today for the apprentice and he can find a place. DEEP DISCRETION (13) was good on debut and will be better for the first-up outing. A minor hope as well.
RACE 5 - HOLDOUT (7) showed plenty his first preparation and needed the first-up outing in stronger than this. Chris Parnham is reunited and fitter he will be tough to beat. PETITE VITESSE (13) found a place at Ascot first-up and it was a decent effort after settling well back from a wide gate. Draws awkwardly again but will be fitter and with average luck can make the finish. VERNACULAR (14) resumes and brings a decent figure from his debut effort. Has trialled solidly and will be naturally improved. PATRIONIC STAR (3) just missed at York and can build on that.
RACE 6 - Competitive. FIVE DOWN (3) resumes off a crack at the G2 WA Guineas over a mile. Brought strong Ascot form to that over this distance and has trialled well for the return. Winning rider Chris Parnham is reunited and no surprise to see him presented forward. Will go close if he is. MAJOR MARIO (4) went close first-up and then ran his best race narrowly beaten at Ascot. Fitter again and won't have to improve much to go close. MORE THAN ENUFF (1) was spelled over the deserved Maiden win over this distance and resumed with a solid placing on the Scarpside. He has the outside gate but will push forward and has more to give. CRIMMO (2) is third-up and back in grade. The former Victorian rates well and should have the early speed to manage the awkward barrier.
RACE 7 - ESTIMATOR (3) runs along and won this grade at Belmont his only start last preparation. He's delivered 2/3 fresh and races well this course/distance. He won't have to be much improved to fight out the finish. PLATO OR PLOMO (5) resumes and is right up to this if presented forward. Has trialled well over 400m at Belmont but a tricky gate needs managing. MORE SPECIAL (4) resumes and has also shown enough to consider. Her 1000m Belmont trial was good but she also needs a good ride. ROMERO (8) reliable gelding with a solid top-three strike rate. Narrowly defeated when third last start over 1000m at Pinjarra Scarpside. Terrific chance.
RACE 8 - MY FURY (5) was quickly back on track narrowly beaten at Ascot this grade/trip. She hits this at peak and should enjoy a soft run from the rails gate. She can go one better. IMPERIALIZE (1) missed a nose at Scarpside and then was only beaten 2L at Ascot in a bit stronger. He will run along from an inside gate and should go close. DIVINE INANNA (3) is a leader who brings strong sprint form. First go at the mile but can see it out with a considered ride. MYSTERY MOMENT (11) resumes and goes very well when fresh with two wins from four starts. Can return in winning form.
