Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - QUEEN OF HAWKS (10) was only collared late when leading up the field over 1000m in Open company 12 days ago, beaten 1.8L. This is a much easier race, she remains on the minimum weight and she draws inside. The form out of her last start has already been franked. She's the one to beat. A LOT OF CLASS (4) comes back from midweek company at the end of last campaign, following a good effort at this track and trip. He'll get back from the wide alley, but he has plenty of upside and it wouldn't surprise to see him storm over the top. WOTUGOT (9) was tested in strong 2YO races in her debut prep, contesting the Magic Millions 2YO at her final start. She'll be fitter for two trials coming in and she can put her best foot forward with no weight on her back. HILLSIDE HORACE (1) disappointed at the last run of his campaign, but was knocking on the door prior to that. Can return with a bang. BLACK SANDS (2) has claims from a nice barrier first-up.
RACE 2 - CRYSTAL ROSE (3) may have found the mile a bridge too far last start at Northam following a narrow defeat over 1400m the start prior. Back to this trip looks to suit and the Visors replace the blinkers. Drawn to be prominent in the run and looks set to shed the maiden tag. POLYVANOVA (11) has plenty of upside following a solid effort in tougher grade last start. Will need some luck from a wide alley, though Carbery sticks and she rates highly on her latest figures. She appears the main danger. STRYKER'S GAL (4) disappointed first-up in City grade and now drops right back to this level on the quick turnaround. This looks to suit her much better, particularly stepping out in trip. Draws well and should get her chance. DESERT MADAME (12) gets the blinkers on first time from a good draw and ticks plenty of boxes. FORBIDDEN APPLE (7) can bounce back following a disappointing run last start.
RACE 3 - PULL THE TRIGGER (2) was an impressive maiden winner at this track and trip before going to town at the end of last campaign. Disappointed there, but was at the pointy end of the market and the form out of that was good. Fitter for two trials coming in and he was placed first-up last campaign. Hard to beat. ODIN OMEN (9) hasn't been far away of late and should appreciate getting back out to this trip and in easier company. He hasn't won for a while, but he's been racing at a higher level than this. Will be back in the run, but watch for him storming home late. MOONIEMIA (6) was long odds fresh and ran accordingly, though the form out of that race has been red hot. He now draws well second-up and out in distance. Ticks a few boxes and can be right in the thick of the action. BUTTERFLYROCK (1) won't be far away if she can pick up where she left off last campaign. DADIRRA (10) is best of the rest out to this trip now.
RACE 4 - CLEVER COMBAT (5) went to Toodyay last start and was only fair, beaten as a 3-1 chance over 1350m. He drops back in trip now where all of his best ratings are and he still has upside being lightly raced. Watch for him storming home over the top at the finish. FINANCE LEGEND (1) comes across from Victoria following a disappointing on the Ballarat Synthetic 135 days ago. He was a first-up winner at Horsham though prior to that. Can roll to the front and he'll take catching with the 3kg claim on his back. SPARKLE CORNER (3) resumes without a trial, though he was effective here throughout last campaign. Jade McNaught rides now and with improvement expected, he'll be thereabouts. SKY VIEW (9) was strong when first-up at Ascot last campaign. Can run a bold race with Carbery in the saddle first-up. DAIYAMONDO (6) can improve on what she showed us fresh.
RACE 5 - AUDREY GRACE (4) won well two back before a 2.2L defeat at Bunbury last time out in stronger company. She was in the market there though and the form out of her win has stood up nicely. Visors replace the blinkers now and with a touch of luck, she can get back to winning ways. HEZANGELIC (5) rates highly off his two runs back this time and steps out to this trip for just the second time. He's had plenty of market support in both runs this preparation and now he drops in grade and draws ideally. Sure to put himself on speed and can return to winning ways. MAGNIFICENT CARAT (2) just missed at Toodyay in a slightly easier race most recently, beaten in a photo finish. Should get her chance from the draw and she's expected to go close now she's at peak fitness. SAINTLY CITY (1) is better than what we saw from him last start and is not to be discounted. SPIRIT MAN (3) has a nice first-up record and can feature.
RACE 6 - SIMPLE LOGIC (6) was out-classed at Belmont in his last run prior to a break, though his form before that stood up nicely. He is 0/5 fresh, but he's been racing in much stronger company and he's well placed in this event. Drawn well and can return to the winners stall. ARABIAN RICHES (2) has won 2/6 first-up and resumes without a trial. He jumped 5-1 in a similar race to end last campaign and he should be prominent from the outset from a nice barrier. Carbery rides now and he can build on his handy fresh record. HARMIKA (1) has been plagued by wet tracks in stronger races of late and should appreciate getting back on top of the ground. The 2kg claim comes in handy and a sharp form reversal wouldn't surprise. ISOLA BAY (4) Is ticking along nicely without winning and has claims. COMPAK (7) won't be far away.
RACE 7 - MAJOR MARIO (5) went under narrowly in Saturday grade last time out, beaten in a photo finish after sitting up on the pace throughout. He'll find this much easier and staying at this trip is a big tick. Should get his chance from the inside draw and if he runs up to his recent form, he'll take plenty of beating. FORTUNE'S LUCK (7) is ticking along nicely without winning, running some strong races in CL5 grade at Northam and Bunbury of late. She maps to be in the first few again today and coming back to this level looks ideal. She's expected to be there at the finish. BAYHARA (6) was very good in two wins here before holding her own in town at the end of last campaign. She's a two-time winner over this trip and she comes into this without a trial. Expecting her to run a bold race. MANHATTAN STRIP (2) may improve with the drop back in trip and the form out of her last start has already been franked, twice. PIERRA ART (10) can improve again third-up.
