Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - JUST SAINT JAMES (2) was an impressive winner on debut before a disappointing effort to end his debut campaign. He's trialled nicely since then behind September Born and Pike remains in the saddle first-up. Maps well and can return with a victory. CLASSIC RULER (1) ran on strongly at Northam first-up when only 1L off the winner. He'll probably get back from the draw today too, but the 1.5kg claim comes in handy and he was a second-up winner in his debut campaign. Fitter now and can get back to winning ways. THIS'LL SHOW YA (6) wasn't disgraced at the end of last campaign in tougher company and her recent trial suggests she's back as good as she left. Can lead from the inside alley and will take plenty of catching. SURFSIDE SESSION (4) was too good on debut and can build on that effort.
RACE 2 - Good race. GOD'LL GETYA (6) has been racing in much stronger company than he faces today and will appreciate the drop in grade. While he was 66-1 fresh, he maps for a much better run today and his trial efforts suggest there is some talent there. This looks his race and he can shed the maiden tag. PRECIOUS GOD (12) has caught the eye at the trials, including most recently when running over the top and scoring very impressively. While she is likely to get back in the run, Louis has been on board for her trials and knows her well. Watch for her storming over the top late. RIPPER FAROOQ (2) just missed fresh over this course and distance and is sure to go close again with the added fitness on his side. REGGIO CALABRIA (1) has hit the reset button following a disappointing run first-up, but this looks a nice place for him. Can be in the finish today. FAVOURITE SONGS (10) can be about the finish on resumption with a nice trial under her belt.
RACE 3 - TALKAWAY (7) just missed on debut before getting too far back last start and never really featuring. She now draws the inside for Ramoly and a much better effort is expected. If she can return to the figures she ran on debut, she'll be very hard to beat. DECISION MAKER (1) will be fitter for one trial coming in and he was only narrowly beaten when on debut back in June. He shouldn't be far away from a good draw and if he can pick up where he left off last campaign, he'll make his presence felt. DANDY'S GEM (8) showed good improvement last start at York when sticking on strongly from midfield. She's been in the market her past couple and if she can continue on her current trajectory, she won't be a maiden for much longer. PATRON EXPRESS (2) rattled home on debut and the extra furlong looks to suit. Expecting him to be right in the finish. ELEGANT INDI (9) can improve on the debut run and won't be far away.
RACE 4 - PSYCHO SISTA (11) jumped a 7-2 chance on debut but bucked jumped shortly after the start and lost the rider. She's had a quiet trial since then and the Blinkers go on first time today. She trialled like a smart horse before her debut and she can make a statement today. BONDI BUSINESS (10) has been impressive at the trials coming into this and map for a lovely run in transit from a nice barrier. Whiting remains with the gelding after being with him through all three trials and with the exposed form looking a little dodgy, he can make an immediate impact. SUMMER'S LEGACY (12) was long odds on debut and never offered much, but she looks to have returned a different horse this time in. Pike hops in the saddle first-up from an inside alley and she's likely to be in the finish. ANABALLISTIC (15) is another who has performed well at the trials in readiness and can run a bold race on debut. MISS GRAPHENE (9) won't be far away if she runs up to her trial efforts.
RACE 5 - SAINTY CULLITY (9) rattled home from well back at Bunbury last time out and ticks plenty of boxes today. He draws an inside gate this time and up to the mile looks to suit now. Showing glimpses early in his career, and now finds the right race to put it all together. KING MAHUTA (5) is ready to peak now third-up and out to this trip, rattling home to be beaten 1.9L at Ascot last time out. He's trending the right way and while he may get back in the run again, he's sure to be finishing off strongly. Key player. ROYAL TROOPER (13) was too fat back to feature last start but does look to have good ability. Now Pike takes the ride from a slightly better draw and it he rates as a leading contender. LIEN HYPHEN (6) has had a few goes now but is ticking along nicely this campaign. Drawn well and won't be far away. LETHAL WEAPON (11) has plenty of improvement up her sleeve and can be in the finish.
RACE 6 - TON OF GRUNT (1) has made an impression early in his career and stormed home to just miss fresh at Bunbury. The horse who beat him was only just beaten in Saturday grade last Saturday. He was a second-up winner here last campaign and if he can improve in similar fashion, he'll be going one better today. FIVE DOWN (2) was too good in a CL3 at Bunbury most recently, sitting close to the speed and getting the job done by 1.2L. Drawn out a little today, but he can improve again third-up and be right in the finish. KELORA (5) just missed over this course and distance last start and this looks to set up similarly. Drops in weight today and can put his best foot forward. IDYLLIC RULER (3) will want further, but finds a nice race to be in the finish on resumption.
RACE 7 - SECRET IDENTITY (5) boasts a strong record over this course and distance, running on to be beaten 0.9L here most recently. He's knocking on the door of a win and this looks to set up nicely for him today. Can end his winning drought. LONG GENES (3) is unbeaten second-up in his career and wasn't all that bad first-up when never in the hunt from well back. He now draws inside for Pike and out to the mile. Ticks plenty of boxes and appears the main danger. WOZZECK (9) stormed over the top at York to win in a photo finish last start and should appreciate the slight rise in trip. This is a little tougher, but he draws nicely today and can make his presence felt again. QUEEN NARDI (7) can sit on the speed despite the wide alley and prove tough to catch. TRULY RELIABLE (4) finds a nice kick off point and can close off strongly.
RACE 8 - BUCKETS RIDGE (7) was impressive when running over the top to win by 0.4L in Saturday grade last time out, running to a new peak rating. He's been kept up to the mark with a recent trial and this looks a targeted assault with Pike engaged. May need some luck from the alley, but he's an improving galloper who we haven't seen the best of yet. RIVER RUBICON (2) closed off well in the Hannan's at Kalgoorlie last start and will appreciate getting out to the mile again. He has the speed to press on from the draw and with some improvement expected, he's sure to be there in the finish. CURRIMUNDI (4) has been going around in tough races and will consider this a drop in Class today. On the 8-day turnaround, but he draws well out to the mile and sharp improvement is on the cards. IN GOOD ORDER (10) is hard to knock on recent form and is another who continues to improve. Chris Parnham rides and he has strong claims. BE OPTIMISTIC (1) can go close to winning on resumption.
RACE 9 - SIMPLY THINKIN' (4) is knocking on the door of another victory, flying home to just miss as favourite at Geraldton most recently. She's in top form, CJP takes the ride and she draws a much better gate today. Expecting her to return to the winners stall. MISS WALL STREET (3) is hard to knock on recent form after winning as favourite over 1300m here 21 days ago. She may get back in the run, but that didn't prove an issue last time out and if she can continue to raise the bar, she'll take plenty of beating. RANDOM REWARDS (11) rattled home to just miss last start and she looks to be knocking on the door of another victory. She rates highly on her last couple of efforts and if she gets the breaks today, it wouldn't surprise to see her storm over the top of them late. AYUMI (2) will make her own luck up on the speed and will take catching with the apprentice claim coming in handy. NU
