Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - UNCLE'S TIP (8) did not have all the luck in the world in her 2 starts campaign earlier in the year and was put aside for the rest of that season to mature. She is resuming with a recent trial win under her belt and from a handy gate, she is expected to kick off this prep on a positive note. NEED A GIGGLE (3) has found it hard to win a race but has been close up on a number of occasions. He was fourth and just over a length from the winner here 12 days ago and can figure in the top 3 this time. SH'BOURNE GLORY (7) has raced her way into form and a recent freshen up of just over 5 weeks would have done her no harm. A good draw should see her in the finish again. UNIQUE EAGLE (9) has been showing promise at the trials and this looks like a ideal first-up assignment. Watch closely.
RACE 2 - DANCING WOLF (10) is a very progressive filly with plenty of natural pace. She followed up a strong resuming effort for second on the Devonport poly track with a tough win by a neck here 19 days ago when racing close to the pace and then forging clear late. She is still on the up with her fitness and with only 52kg on her back, she can take the next step immediately. RICH GLOW (3) finally broke through for an overdue maiden win fresh up here by nearly 3 lengths. He is a lot stronger this season and now that the penny has dropped, he can go right on with the job. KENSINGTON DIVA (4) is an ex-Victorian mare who was a strong finishing fourth at her local debut here nearly 4 weeks ago and she has been a late scratching since then. Each-way claims from the pole position. SIR JAG (13) will be peaking third up and is ready to put his best hoof forward in this. Each way.
RACE 3 - ALTAI RANGER (1) battled on bravely to hold third at Tatura last start after leading for most of the journey. He has since changed stables and will make full use of his very handy gate. He is just over 4 weeks between runs so won't mind the drop back to 1200m. His next win is not far away. STARNOTE (6) is resuming from a spell with a couple of comfortable trial wins under her belt. She has had winning form fresh up in the past and is at the right level to kick off her season on a positive note. A market watch is advised. NGAPALI BEACH (2) made steady progress last season and will be even stronger this time in work. Both of her career wins have come on this track and a recent trial placing will have her ready to run a big race fresh up. WINCHESTER RIFLE (9) has been mixing his form and maybe he is better off being kept to the shorter trips as he raced too keenly over 1400m here last start. He has David Pires in the irons for the first time and the pair merit healthy respect.
RACE 4 - MANDATE (4) has gone back-to-back on this track since being tried in front and is only up a kilo in weight as he chases his hat-trick. He will more than likely take up the early running again and is the one to peg back again. MONTE FLEUR (9) did not fire a shot on the Devonport poly track 7 weeks ago and was found to have had an elevated heart rate after that run. She has since been in winning form at the trials and is set to make amends in this. LORDOSIS (3) only peaked on her effort late here 19 days ago when resuming from a spell and finishing sixth as favourite, He will be better for that hit out and after a claim, he carries 6kg less. Stick with him and follow your money. CHICANE (7) has been freshened up since his last start a month ago and a 2kg claim will help him. Each way claims in this.
RACE 5 - SPRING BEAN (4) has flourished since making the move from Victoria at the start of the season and after a comfortable maiden win in his penultimate start, he was a solid third as favourite here 12 days ago. He meets a similar lineup, and another good run can be expected. BULBUK (1) is an ex-Victorian who last raced over a similar trip at Coleraine nearly 5 weeks ago and is taking his Tasmanian debut with the blinkers on for the first time. A change of scenery could help him, and any positive market moves are worth following. PUMA (3) has found it hard to win another race, but this field is wide-open and a 2kg claim will help him. A good draw will make him one of the top 3 or 4 contenders. MISS VIVACE (6) has a similar record to many of her rivals and she has been third in her last couple of starts on the Devonport poly track. Include in all combinations.
RACE 6 - BINE (3) will be peaking third up and was only beaten by a short-head here in a 5-horse field 12 days ago. She slides back in class for this assignment and can secure the perfect sit early on from the pole position. Hard to beat this time. QUEENBOROUGH FLYER (5) did not fire in 3 starts last prep but looks to be back to something like her best after winning a recent trial without being fully tested. 3 of her 4 career wins have come on this circuit and she has also won twice fresh up in the past. Goes close. PHILOSOPHERS STONE (1) is a very competitive gelding at this level and was third last time out on the Devonport poly track a month ago. He is likely to try for the early lead and if he can find the top without using too much energy, he will be very hard to peg back. BOLD INSTINCT (2) led all the way to win here fresh up by a short head. He is dropping down a level and only has to cope with a 5.5kg weight rise, to get the one to beat again.
RACE 7 - ALWAYS A WINNER (4) likes it here and broke a win drought when scoring by a short-head last time out on this track nearly 4 weeks ago. He is perfectly drawn in the pole position and stays in the same grade with only 1,5kg more to carry. Stick with him on top again. IMAGINE HOWE (2) has not won for some time and is nearing his peak fitness after having 2 runs back from a spell. A good draw and the extra furlong will help him, so include in all combinations. VINTAGE DIESEL (3) was beaten by a wide draw here last time out and has top hoop David Pires in the saddle this time and he could help coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. Each way value. MIHOKO TAKEO (9) has been mixing her form and the drop back to a mile should suit here. Don't risk her.
