Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - EXOPIPI (8) didn't have much luck in the lane last start and went to line to without being asked for his full effort when finishing a narrow third. Sets up similarly for this and with even luck he can get the job done. RABTAT (2) beat home Exopipi last start but was unimpeded. Has gone to a new level this campaign and is a great chance to add to his strong run of form. WHATSANAMEGEORGE (7) has been solid in his two runs back. Should be nearing his peak now and has gun hoop in Toeroek sticking. Right in this. EUREKA'S VICTORY (1) gave backers a bold sight last start but couldn't hold on late. Drops back in grade and holds appeal on the short turnaround.
RACE 2 - WIGGUM (6) returned to somewhere near his best last start at HQ when narrowly missing. Gets a nice drop at the weights and can go one better this time. ANILLA (3) chased gamely into a midfield finish when resuming at Bendigo. Is sure to have come on with that run under the belt and will appreciate the added trip. Great chance to break a run of outs. RUBAMOS (1) returns. Tackled some quality company last campaign, suggesting the stable has an obvious opinion of the gelding. Recent trial win suggests he's come back in great order and Holder sticks. Bright start anticipated. JACKS ON ICE (4) is yet to strike through this campaign but has been ticking along nicely. Draws to get gun run and deserves respecting. DELIGHTFUL SHECKY (5) wasn't far away fresh and is a likely improver. Another to consider.
RACE 3 - SPIRIT OF CAMELOT (3) was well supported fresh but never got going, tacking on for a midfield finish. Has been kept fresh with four weeks between runs and steps out sharply in trip. From a smart stable, so expecting sharp improvement. BURNING BRIGHT (4) was also well found by the market last start but couldn't quite get the job done over a longer trip. Expect her to charge forward again to give herself every chance. CARARADA (1) was a very impressive winner two back, then left herself with too much to do at the latest. She will likely drift back again from the draw but is capable of tearing them down late if they run along early. ZOOMED (6) warmed nicely to her task late when resuming at Ballarat. Will have come on from the hitout and will appreciate the added trip. In the mix. It's also hard to knock the form of LIMBERING (8).
RACE 4 - SURPRISE COMING (3) put the writing on the wall last start when chinned at HQ. Will eat up the extra 200m and should be hitting his straps. PEARL ADIOS (5) returned with a bang three weeks ago when fending off a handy-enough field to get the nod. Further improvement anticipated and he could repeat the dose. EASY CAMPESE (2) sets up nicely for this off two solid chasing efforts to kick-off the preparation. Finally draws a gate and can give this a big shake if he brings his A-Game. ANGELIC APPEAL (9) will find this tougher but deserves respect on the back of a smart win at Murray Bridge.
RACE 5 - OBI (5) shocked punters last start at HQ when lengthening nicely to score with a bit up his sleeve. Not that much tougher this time, he just has to lug more weight. Can win again. MADISON KATE (7) didn't offer a shout first-up here but has been freshened with a 42-day break. Has gone back to the trials and run well. Sharp improvement anticipated. NULLIFY (4) has shown plenty of early dash in her last two, perhaps going overboard with it at the latest. Shoulders a handy record over the track and trip and rates one of the key chances. Smaller cases can be made for FLEURIEU FLIPPER (1) and VEE ROD (6) on best figures.
RACE 6 - DAIQUIRI (6) showed great tactical speed last start at Geelong, only to be captured late. Strips fitter again and should be nearing her peak. Well-placed and will take some running down. LODBROK (5) closed off nicely to grab second last start at the Valley. Will appreciated the added trip, already 1/1 at the distance. Draws softly for Pannell and is a huge threat. TIPPA (1) broke through for a deserved win last start on the back of solid performances. Is ticking along superbly and there's no reason he can't repeat the dose. LAVISH THINKER (8) has let the punters down in his last two but he does have ability. Don't jump off.
RACE 7 - THE STALKER (8) made light work of a C1 two back and then followed it up with a solid chase into third last time. Peaking now and gets help again at the weights with the 2kg claimer engaged. Can give this a big shake. ZANTHRON (4) has been a model of consistency for the training partnership this time in and boasts some really strong form-lines. Boasts a strong record over this track and trip and deserves serious consideration. Win won't shock. We are yet to see the best of HOWL (5) this campaign but he has shown glimpses. Will drift back again from the draw but could blow them away late if they overdo it in front. LOVELY LOOKIN' (11) failed to live up to market expectation fresh. Was too bad to be true luckily and is worth forgiving.
RACE 8 - MISLUDI (12) continues to leave herself with too much to do but has a serious motor on her day. Will settle rearward again from the draw but will be hard to stop if close enough when straightening. ARTFUL TAWNY (2) was a nice winner fresh. Not as impressive second-up when a touch flat but can bounce back sharply third-up back out to a winning trip. Similar story for HALLSTATT (3) who can do much better if he brings her A-game. DERBY DOWNS (9) looks to have come back in great order on the back of a handy trial win. The form around him last campaign has stuck up strongly. Have to include.
RACE 9 - CHAKADO (5) was poised to first-up but just lacked a change of gears. Has been kept fresh for his second-up assignment with five weeks between runs and is drawn to get all the favours. Bold showing anticipated. MIGHTY SAPPHIRE (2) has caught the eye in his three runs back, savaging the line on every occasion. Draws to go back again but should be hitting his straps. Watch for him climbing over their backs late. I TELL YA WHAT (11) was denied by the barest of margins when resuming at Strathalbyn. Will improve with that run under the belt and gets in low at the weights with the 3kg claimer sticking. Don't overlook. NEVER SURRENDER (7) will find this tough but deserves respect after digging deep to score last start. Holder sticking is a positive.
