Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - CAPE SIZE (2) has raced his way into form and ran his best race yet since moving to South Australia when finishing runner-up by a head at Mount Gambier a fortnight ago. He is down slightly in class and Is poised to go one better. DARK LAGER (3) has needed plenty of time to mature and could be finally putting it all together as a 7-year-old gelding after finishing third in the same race as the top pick. He was runner-up here before that and should be right in the thick of things again. COLD TRAIN (16) has only been lightly tried for a 6-year-old gelding and he is resuming from a spell. He might need the run but this field is not strong so include him in all combinations. THAVMA (6) will be peaking third up and he did not have much luck last time out. Each way value in this.
RACE 2 - LISELLE'S LUCK (5) has been given plenty of time to mature before making her debut and steps out for the first time as a 5-year-old. She trialled at the end of last month and has the advantage of the pole position. Let the markets be your guide. REOFFER (8) is making her debut from a good draw and has Dom Tourneur in the saddle. She is high up in the early markets and is sure to attract a lot of attention on race day. VALKUR (13) has the experience edge over her some of her main rivals and will be a lot stronger this season. A 3kg claim will help and she is not out of this. FRONTAL ATTACK (10) has been showing some pace in his recent racing and was good enough to finish runner-up at Donald 3 starts back. A repeat of that effort would have him in the top 3 here.
RACE 3 - MARVELOUS NIGHT (3) is resuming after a successful Darwin campaign earlier in the year and he usually comes to hand quickly. He benefits from a 3kg claim and can't be underestimated. EMERALD REWARD (7) raced wide fresh up at Mt Gambier but still proved to be too strong, scoring by over 3 lengths. He has a superior gate this time and can take the next step immediately. LUNAR SOLAR (2) did not quite handle the dirt track at Alice Springs earlier in the season and is back with her original trainer. She is a handy mare at this level and usually comes to hand quickly. Watch closely. SUPREME THUNDER (10) strips fitter second up and can improve sharply. Include in all combinations.
RACE 4 - PINCHBECK (2) made the most of a good ride when winning his last start at Mt Gambier 2 weeks ago. That was his first run from the James Dodgson stable and he gets to stay in the same class. He is up 3.5kg in weight but that should not be enough to stop him from winning again. MISS THATCHER (8) caught the eye with a late finishing burst to end up in sixth place at Balaklava 9 days ago. She has a superior gate this time and is capable of a top 3 spot this time. Each way value. JIMMYS EDGE (5) motored home late at Murray Bridge over 900m last start and was unlucky at Morphettville before that. Both of his career wins have been over 1100m and he can win this without it being a surprise. UTAH JOE (9) has been struggling for form this season and is right down in grade for this assignment. A wide draw won't make it easy but on his day, he would be too good for this lot. Don't risk him.
RACE 5 - ANRUSHKA (12) has not won for some time and was third in the same race as the top pick last time out, finishing just as quickly. She can settle right on the pace from a good gate and is good enough to take this out. FOUR OUTLAWS (5) does not win often and had found the right sort of field fresh up with many of his rivals in the same situation. He has won here over this trip in the past and can't be ruled out of winning this. MY TRUTH (4) had been racing well before cracking a rare win at a recent Broken Hill picnic meeting nearly 3 weeks ago. He won't find this much harder and while he is holding his form, he can have a say in the outcome of this contest. Each way. ELSIE GIRL (11) won her maiden at Penola before just battling at Warrnambool last time out. Expect a return to form here from the perfect inside draw. Stick with her.
RACE 6 - TESTA DEXTA (1) has found some good form again since dropping down to this level at his penultimate start at Penola and finishing runner-up. He then lost by a nose here nearly 4 weeks ago and looks perfectly placed to crack that well-deserved next victory. SEAFARING (4) is usually competitive at this level and should now be nearing his peak fitness third up. A wide gate is no help but this field is not strong and he is ready to put his best hoof forward. FIRST TOSEN (6) was a touch disappointing fresh up at Mt Gambier after being well-found in the markets. He has not missed a cheque second-up in the past and is a quick improver. Each way value, despite a wide gate. THE PENSKE FILE (3) made up many lengths last time out when finishing fourth and should be ready to hit his straps third up from a spell. Dom Tourneur is back in the saddle and the pair has some top 3 claims this time.
RACE 7 - NAMADJI (10) has shown a lot more consistency this season since joining the Jemma Frew stable and was a solid third at Mt Gambier 2 weeks ago. His only win came on this course and over this trip when clearing his maiden status. He won't have any fitness concerns and should be very hard to hold out. SHARMA PRINCESS (11) won a trial before having no luck at all at Strathalbyn 5 days ago in a similar contest. She was not pressured over the final stages that day so he can cope with the quick backup here. Stick with her. Can win. ENRICO PALLAZZO (13) has been racing well lately and this veteran is normally reliable when fully fit. It is very hard to say he can win but this is his sort of field and he certainly deserves another winning turn. AMERICAIN MISS (2) did not fire at Hamilton last time out after some solid form before that. The blinkers are back on and she can bounce straight back into the money, despite a wide gate.
