Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - Scratchings leave the door wide open for METALART (7) who didn't put a hoof wrong stringing four wins together on the bounce in his first preparation and has slowly been working his way back to form this campaign. Important to note that Rodd was on board for all four of those victories and gets back in the irons here. Rates the testing material. Former Victorian QUEEN AIR (11) is having her first run for the new stable but should find this easier than what she faced down south and any market moves must be noted. OVIDIUS (4) next in line in a race with only a handful of chances.
RACE 2 - KERCHAK (2) was a dominant winner of the Mooloolaba Cup at the latest outing and is looking to bring up the hat-trick here. Is one from one around this circuit and gets 2kg weight relief with the claim. Ticks a few boxes. EXOTIQUE MISS (10) has placed three of four this time in work and looks to be nearing another victory. Gets Melbourne Cup winning hoop Dolan back on board from the favourable draw and should be going very close. ROGUE BEAR (6) has won over this course and distance and will find this task easier than his past couple of efforts in NSW. Top-three aspirations. HABEEBAH (12) strips fitter third-up from the spell and may earn some minor money. CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE (11) next in line.
RACE 3 - The $105,000 Country Stampede Final. THE HANGER CAT (3) has been racing very consistently of late and is drawn to get all the favours in running for Orman from gate three. Has a win and a second from three attempts at this distance range and is expected to play a major role in the finish. MEDIA EMPIRE (8) returned to the winners' stall at Rockhampton last time out and will have derived some confidence from that victory. Will be rock-hard fit for this and rates a genuine top-three candidate on best form. MASTERPLAN (11) has placed around this circuit and is looking for the hat-trick now. Cannot be underestimated. SMILING ZAC (14) doesn't know how to run a bad race and is a must for the multiples. CITY CHICK (13) best of the rest in a competitive contest.
RACE 4 - The $200,000 Listed Phelan Ready for the babies. The well-bred HI BARBIE (10) (out of a four-time Listed winner) is at the races for the first time but has shown ability at the trials and will be well-educated from the Gollan camp. Ticks plenty of boxes and should be getting the job done on debut. SECRET SORT (1) hasn't done much wrong with a win and a second to start the career and should give backers a sight. Maps for the right run and will be in this for a very long way. CUDDLES FOR KIMMY (9) is next best with her debut win coming on wet going.
RACE 5 - The $200,000 Country Cups Challenge Final. STARSONIC (2) has been racing in a rich vein of form of late and saves his best for this mile journey with two wins and a placing from just three outings. Gets the services of Orman from a middle draw and a bold showing is expected. I AM GOOD AT THIS (12) has put back-to-back wins together and only needs some luck from the sticky barrier to be featuring in the finish. MOCAMBO (4) boasts a victory around this circuit and draws the inside marble. Top-three credentials on best form. PICKO ROCKS (9) is usually thereabouts and is one for the exotics players. SKYFORGER (7) rounds out the selections.
RACE 6 - Looks a race with a stack of chances. KRONENBOURG (4) loves this track and trip with two wins and a placing from three attempts and should be ready to peak now fourth-up from the spell. Goes well for Maloney and expecting to get the run of the race from gate two. Will be right there when the whips are cracking. Stablemate FELIX THE SCAT (5) returned in fine fashion with a win over this course and distance and strips fitter second-up from the break. Rates a serious contender. POETIC DRAMA (7) has been knocking on the door of another victory with two consecutive runner-up finishes and should be playing a major role in the outcome. The penny has dropped for PIPISTRELLE (13) who has won four of five this preparation and it's hard to knock mares in form. Has to be considered. MISS JOELENE (3) will appreciate the step-up to the mile now and looks one for the exotics players.
RACE 7 - The $160,000 Listed Mode Stakes. The well-related I FOUND YOU (6) (half to G1 winner and stallion Shooting To Win) wasn't disgraced in Group 3 company at Flemington last time out and should appreciate the drop back in grade here. Strips fitter second-up now and will be right there at the business end. OVERFULL (2) draws the inside alley and can trouble the judge with the right run in transit. SURPRISE HONEY (12) resumed with a very nice win at Ipswich that suggested there were bigger things in store. She's turned in a nice trial since then and she's sure to measure up from the leading stable. SOCRAZYINLOVE (15) may be some value with the blinkers going on first time.
RACE 8 - The $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes. Looks a cracking contest. HIDDEN WEALTH (7) is first-up here but revved up for this with a dominant trial victory and boasts a handy fresh record with a win and a placing from three attempts. Has won three of four over this six-furlong journey and is sure to prove tough to hold out. CIFRADO (6) has won two of four around this circuit and will appreciate the extra furlong second-up from the spell. Top-three commodity on best form. PRINCE OF BOOM (4) lost his way a bit at the end of last campaign but there's no denying the talent he does possess. Nice trial coming into this and he would go close to winning if he was at his top.
RACE 9 - AMAZING EAGLE (1) shed the maiden tag in Listed company when resuming at Randwick and will have taken strides following that breakthrough victory. Gets Maloney on top and can go right on with job now. GIVE ME SPACE (4) hails from a handy family (half to G3 winner Extra Time) and has gone bang bang to start the campaign including a win over this track and trip last time out. Winning hoop Orman reunites and is good enough to feature prominently. BOOMTOWN BOSS (5) strips fitter third-up and must be respected from the Gollan barn. In the mix. SUPERALLOY (2) is still a maiden but has been thereabouts and may earn a cheque with any luck from the wide draw.
RACE 10 - APUNTAR (2) has hit a purple patch of form with two wins and a second from his past three starts and looks ready for the step-up to the mile journey now. Goes well for Marshall who has two wins from just three steers and should be right there at the business end. CAN'T RECALL ONE (3) strips fitter second-up from the break and gets Orman back on to navigate from the sticky alley. This looks an ideal assignment. NOBLE DECREE (8) is still a maiden but has been well in the betting in both starts to date and where there's smoke there's fire. Respect from the Vandyke stable. MOON SWEEPER (10) was a touch disappointing last time but go on the dominant Lismore victory on debut. Draws the inside marble and can bounce right back to form here.
