Midweek racing from Rosehill and Cranbourne and we've got a horse to follow from each meeting.
Rosehill Race 1 - California Bay
Two starts for two second placings for this Dundeel gelding who looks primed to win over a mile next time out. Both starts to date he's been off the bit and chasing but stuck to his guns late, especially here at Rosehill over the 1400m. The leader looked like he'd go on and win by a good space but California Bay picked up again the last 100m or so and got within a length. There was a big gap back to third which is always a good sign and he just needs further to be winning next time out.
Cranbourne Race 6 - Blazing Harry
Lovely return by this four-year-old gelding who was first-up off nearly 500 days having had a throat issue and subsequent operation. He was last seen running second to Steparty as a two-year-old when that horse was flying. Over the 1200m here, he drew wide, went back and hit the line beautifully with the race shape against. The leader didn't go quickly to the 800m and then just started to ramp up the pressure through the midstages which is the worst scenario for a backmarker. He's come home in the fastest last 600/400/200m of the meeting and looks to have come back really well from the long break.
