Up Cups is now the winner of his past four in succession, including the Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) on 8 February. He began well from his wide barrier (13), settled nicely back in sixth place, following a steady tempo on the downgraded track (Soft7). He tracked up (wide with cover) from 1000m, went widest of all from the 600m, hit the front at the 150m and dug deep under his top weight (58kg) to score a good win in a photo. Arianne settled near last, improved wide out (tracking Up Cups) from 1000m. Got to third at the 100m and kept plugging on well for a close second. Schockemohle was seventh, between runners, got through to third (under riding) at the home turn, challenged at the 100m and kept fighting on to hold the minor placing. Favourite Geegees Goldengirl was a handy fourth, moved up (wide) to challenge nearing the home turn but weakened in the straight to finish (7.1 lengths) seventh in the Soft7 conditions.
