The Victoria Derby takes place at Flemington this Saturday.

The four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival kicks off this weekend with Derby Day and the $2 million Derby over 2500m for three-year-olds is the feature race.

Goldrush Guru won for Andrew Gluyas and Jamie Melham last year after the late Riff Rocket and Manzoice both saluted for Chris Waller in 2023 and 2022 respectively.

Firm favourite Observer, trained by Ciaron Maher, drew nicely in barrier 4 which should allow Mark Zahra to sit close to the speed.

Fellow Godolphin colt Options from the McEvoy stable has drawn gate 7 for Harry Coffey.

There are currently four emergencies, including Arabian Prince who has barrier 20 to contend with.

Last year's winning jockey Melham will jump from gate 16 on the Mark Walker-trained McWoody.
