Jamie Melham has been suspended for 30 meetings for careless riding stemming from an incident on Melbourne Cup Day.

On the first Tuesday in November, Melham created history by partnering with Half Yours to become the first female jockey to win the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double.

But just two races after her stunning ride on Half Yours, in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club stakes, Melham’s mount Fancify shifted out which caused She’s Got Pizzazz and Blake Shinn to fall.

Shinn suffered a broken leg as a result of the fall and will be out of action for an extended period.

Racing Victoria (RV) stewards had to wait until Shinn could be interviewed before hitting Melham with the month-long suspension.

Despite the ban she will be eligible to ride at Saturday’s CF Orr Stakes meeting at Caulfield where she’ll look to win the Group 1 race twice in a year.

The CF Orr was last run in February - when Melham aboard Another Wil lobbed - and has since been shifted to the end of the spring.

She rides Lindsay Park’s Evaporate, a $5.50 chance, in this weekend’s 1400m Orr.

Melham’s ban will be lifted on December 18.
