"Caulfield specialist": Why Jimmysstar looks set for victory in C.F. Orr Stakes

By Connor Scanlon

The Group 1 weight-for-age C.F. Orr Stakes will be run over 1400m at Caulfield on Saturday.

Formerly raced during its traditional February timeslot, the race has been shifted to November 15 to be run after the Cup Carnival.

Another Wil won earlier this year after Mr Brightside (2024), Jacquinot (2023), Tofane (2022) and Streets of Avalon (2021) before him.

Snapshot of the race below:

The horse they all have to get past is the favourite JIMMYSSTAR who is coming off a scintillating Balding Stakes victory (1300m) and a placing in The Everest.

The Ciaron Maher-trained chestnut is a Caulfield specialist, winning four of his five starts at the track.

The gelding also loves the distance, winning three times from eight starts, along with three second place finishes.

At six-years-old Jimmysstar is primed to win this race.

The only danger to the favourite is ANGEL CAPITAL.

Angel Capital was electric in The Everest, flying home at the 100m mark, proving that he can put Jimmysstar to the sword.

Chris Waller's bay is the threat here and he could definitely win.

It's hard to imagine any horse apart from Jimmysstar or Angel Capital winning this race, but I'm going with Jimmysstar here.

Selections

1 - Jimmysstar
5 - Angel Capital
2 - Evaporate
4 - Pinstriped
