Sam Hyland

SUNSHINE COAST

Race 4 | 1. Don Pedro

Donny was fantastic last start at a big price, and he will be better again here. Has the claim and forward in running he can win.

PINJARRA

Race 1 | 1. Tiger Tank

Has drawn well and been honest at all three runs. Should be hard to beat here.

TRARALGON

Race 3 | 3. Igotmymindonyou

Has been good both starts and can jump and put himself in a spot here. Stockdale’s are no strangers to winners at this track and he will be ready to salute here.

NEWCASTLE

Race 3 | 14. Contemplates

Has weight relief and from the strong Waller camp. Will be improved with the time behind him and should be finishing well here, big track suits.

WARRNAMBOOL

Race 9 | 12. Darkbonee

This horse trialled well behind Swoboda who was one of the biggest certainties beaten at Ararat last week so the form is sound. This horse has loads of scope and will be winning this first-up today.

GRAFTON

Race 7 | 3. Golden Copper

Is a super chance here she shows plenty of speed and from a good gate she will show a clean set of heels here.

GRAFTON

Race 3 | 12. Joanjett

Not really big on backing debits in races like this but the horses we have seen at the races are honestly meh. She looked good in a trial where she wasn’t asked to do heaps but did enough to suggest talent. JN takes the claim and comes from a stable who are brilliant. Vettori is the danger, handles wet, knocks on door but doesn’t win albeit his first-up form is his best, so he is the only other one in the EQ but I’m with the debutant at $4 but I am interested in the market late on her!

Race 4 | 8. The Torque Xpress

Should probably be two from two after no luck on debut but turned that around with a nice win two weeks back! Will stalk the leader (Dizzy Dee) and be hard to beat late! The form out of the race stacks up with Darling Take Care winning during the week! $2.40 is skinny but he is better than these and should win easily!

Race 6 | 1. Texas Fireball

Was pretty good resuming and looks set for the mile from a really nice gate and the Newman claim. This is easier than Eagle farm, has run well second-up before, soft track not a concern at all and I think he’ll be will be too strong.

NEWCASTLE

Race 3 | 14. Contemplates

Was ok in first prep and the trialled really well last week in readiness to resume! Gets on a good track first time and led in the trial so expect similar today! Grima claim helps and in its maiden run for Waller (ex-Godolphin) I think this girl will be very hard to beat!

Race 5 | 4. Navy Buoy

Broke the maiden resuming easily and the race has held up incredibly. 2nd/4th/6th have all gone on and won and he belted them! Up to the 1500m is a big tick as is the drying track! Can again stalk the speed and peel off them and go bang!

TRARALGON

Race 5 | 5. Warrior Smile

Ran really well in first prep on the back of really good horses. Is drawn much better than the favourite here and will be on speed. Has jumped out well and handles a damp track! Ran well on debut so can go fresh! I do suggest he will be better towards 1400m but Jennings will be able to dictate the race and speed so it’s not a major concern. I’m surprised he is $5 to $2.40 for Magnabelle Royale and he will prove it wrong here!

Race 7 | 3. Zweig

Intriguing former French horse who was horrible in its only Aussie run so far at Mornington where it was eased out and then tipped out. Has had time to acclimate since then but I think the bigger positive today is the wet track. All the best form in France was on soft or heavy over longer distances than the Mile. 1900m first-up will be a watch off one trial but he most certainly intrigues me in a very open Cup and worth a little play!

WARRNAMBOOL

Race 2 | 5. Bazzar

Was okay in only run-in first prep but in saying that I think it’s better suited up to the 1200m here. This race has a bit of death to it so will be interesting to see the form line to come out of it, but I expect Will Gordon to be able to stalk the speed with this bloke. Jumped out well on heavy so toe into ground no concern. I think he has upside and looks to have come back well and will be in the finish.

Race 5 | 5. Sunday Buzz

Actually ran second in the Jericho a couple years back so the distance here is zero issue. What I think helps him is the wet track. Few in the market have that Q over that and this is why I think SB is the bet. Wasn’t too bad last start being Jenni Tank but again track conditions more suited today for this bloke. Feel he has worked towards a sloppy track up in trip race and this is it! Roaring Engine is the class horse (Adelaide Cup huge run), he would need a drying track to justify me wanting to back him! Sunday Buzz for me is over the odds at $8!

Race 7 | 1. Demojo

The wetter the better for this bloke who had zero luck last start at Cranbourne in a tougher race. The favourite is going to get a bit more pressure than when he won last start so this bloke should be able to find a backside from a tricky gate. 1000m specialist, fit, and to be able to find the middle of the track late in the day might be a bonus. He will be very hard to beat!
