By Matt Reid

Thoroughbred racing is in Hobart on Sunday afternoon for the second feature program of the week.

The eight-race card contains the $50,000 Lady Lynette & Blackflash and the $100,000 Summer Cup.

The rail is at +4m with a fine weather forecast.

Best bet

Race 7 – 5. Ziryab

Victorian visitor Ziryab appears to have a class edge on his local opposition in the $100,000 Summer Cup. He was an enormous run in defeat at Pakenham, setting a strong pace before fading to finish just off the placegetters. His recent work since then has been excellent, and the mainland form held up in this race last year when Ciaron Maher prepared the quinella.

Best value

Race 4 – 6. Zany Girl

I’m excited to see the rematch between Sanniya and Zany Girl, who haven’t met since their 2yo campaign and followed completely different paths since then. Sanniya has proven herself to be a speed machine and will no doubt be rolling in front and prove very hard to catch. That said, the e/w price about Zany Girl appeals in a race where I have the two 3yos well clear of the rest.

Best roughie

Race 1 – 15. Thermal Miss

I thought both maidens to start the day were wide open, but have Thermal Miss in the opener as decent overs. She ran them along at a decent clip on debut in Launceston, eventually beaten 4.5 lengths in a race that has produced subsequent winners. She was ridden in a different fashion in her recent trial, hitting the line well from the rear. In with 52kg for gun apprentice Jabez Johnstone, Thermal Miss is worth a spec in a tough start to the day.
