Jigsaw had "all the pieces" in overseas Group 1 triumph
By Connor Scanlon
Jigsaw took out the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1200m) in New Zealand, winning both Jigsaw and trainer Cindy Alderson their first Group 1.
Alderson was confident prior to the $240,000 race that her horse would win, stating that the seven-year-old was full of confidence heading into the sprint.
“He’s in great order… Physically he's never looked better,” Alderson told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up a day before the race.
“When he’s in the zone and he feels that he is invincible, he races to that. That’s the way he’s feeling at the moment. Here at Byerley Park, he’s strutting around the place like he’s the man.”
Reflecting on the race itself on SENTrack’s Saturday Trackside, David Taggart and Matt Nevett marvelled at the amazing job which Alderson had done with Jigsaw to turn his career around.
The seven-year-old had not won a race since 2023 but has now hit career-best form this season, claiming victory in each of his last four runs.
Nevett: “He's a good horse jigsaw.”
Taggart: “I told you he's got all the pieces.
“Logan Bates won a Group 2 on him around The Valley, but this is now the young kid's biggest win.
Nevett: “Cindy Alderson has done an incredible job with that horse.
Taggart: “Hasn’t she! You’re spot on.
Nevett: “Like he was not even a Group 2 sprinter, he was just C grade for a while.
“A lot of potential early on, she’s done a ripping job with him.
Luke: “Look at her celebrating it.”
Jigsaw’s Group 1 Railway Stakes victory marked his fourth straight win.
