Noonan's smokey for the Oakleigh Plate
By Connor Scanlon
Geegees Mistruth finished third in the W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday, behind Way To The Stars and Oak Hill who finished first and second respectively.
However, in the short sprint Geegees Mistruth settled last, then was hit with a small interference twice when she went to make her move.
When the four-year-old finally got into clear air, the mare bolted home impressively to clinch a place.
RSN form analyst Nick Noonan believes that if the bay wasn’t held up in her run, then she may have run down the winner.
In fact, Noonan has Geegees Mistruth as the key horse to follow from the sprint moving forward.
“I think under a different race shape and scenario, especially for Geegees Mistruth, if she had have had clear air the entire running, she may have run down Way To The Stars in the end,” Noonan said on RSN's Correct Weight.
“I don't think you can take anything away from her performance, she looks the one to really follow out of the race.”
Fellow racing analyst Ben Caluzzi also agreed with Noonan’s take.
“Yeah, I think you're right, Geegees Mistruth is definitely the one to follow out of the race,” Caluzzi agreed.
“And she's the one who can get a strong 1200m.
“So a really fast run 1100m in an Oakleigh Plate is probably right up her alley, to be honest.”
Noonan continued, explaining why the mare can run out a strong 1200m.
The racing analyst even went as far to say that Geegees Mistruth is a smokey for the $750,000 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.
“I think Ben (Melham) would have been tearing his hair out at stages in the run, thinking, ‘I’ve got nowhere to go and plenty of horse,’” Noonan said.
“So, she's probably the one where you go, yep, she can run out a strong 1200m, and fast, high pressure races going forward.
“I could see her being a bit of a smokey in a race like an Oakleigh Plate.
“You could throw her in your in your exotics if you're looking to play that way.”
Geegees Mistruth is currently $13 to win the Oakleigh Plate which will take place on February 21 at Caulfield Racecourse.
