Tasracing's Friday best bets at Launceston (30/01)

By Matt Reid

Friday night thoroughbred racing is in Launceston for an eight-race card featuring the $50,000 Sydeston Cup.

Fields are deep throughout the night, for the last meeting at the venue for three weeks.

The rail is +8m 1200m-W/Post; +7m Remainder, with a fine weather forecast.

Best Bet

Race 1 – 13. Rushonova

Rushonova defied an enormous betting drift ($3-$10) on debut to run a solid second behind a stablemate that jumped at $1.30. She was no match for the winner, but she gapped third, and her overall time was much faster than the class 2 later in the program. Natural improvement is anticipated second up, and she draws for a lovely run on the speed with Shayleigh Ingelse again claiming down to 52kg. Should be in the race for a long way.

Best value

Race 8 – 5. Agnete

Given the small field, each-way odds are on offer about Agnete in the last, who has yet to miss the quinella in three starts at the track and distance. One of those was her last start when she settled last in a farcically run affair, which became a sprint home from the 400m mark. If Newitt can use the low draw here to settle handy, Agnete should get her chance to go one better than last start.

Best roughie

Race 3 – 13. Wyndinthewillows

Wyndinthewillows ran much better than the market expected at her first start in the state, and as a result, she’s been specked early at odds on Friday night. The rise to 1600m suits, but she’ll need a good ride from Troy Baker with the prospect of being back and wide on a night that could suit the on pacers given the rail position. That said, at a double-figure price, I think Wyndinthewillows is worth a gamble.
