Tasracing's Friday best bets at Launceston (20/02)

By Matt Reid

The penultimate thoroughbred meeting of the 25/26 Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer Racing Festival is in Launceston on Friday night.

The eight-race card contains a pair of Listed events, the Gold Sovereign for 2yos and the Tasmanian Oaks for 3yo fillies.

The rail is in the true position with fine weather forecast.

Best Bet

Race 1 – 3. Strato Ken

It took three starts, but Strato Ken ran up to his excellent trials prior to his debut, with a solid second on Hobart Cup Day. The winner of that race, Tribal Council, has since won a class 1, franking the form. Strato Ken should land up on the speed with John Allen in the saddle, who is fresh off a winning treble last time he was in the state.

Next best

Race 6 – 1. Magnaprime

You’d love to own a share in Magnaprime, who has finished in the quinella in 11 of his 13 starts, including victories in three of his last four. The blinkers went on two starts ago, and he’s unbeaten since then, the latest in a strong BM76. He is very well placed here with 56kg at his favourite distance. Hard to see him not running well again.

Best value

Race 4 – 8. Last Tremble

Last Tremble found her right grade and distance last start and was only narrowly beaten at a double-figure price. She presents here in a similar contest and stays down in the weights with an ideal draw for apprentice Chloe Wells. I have her shorter than the $7 on offer and think she represents a good each-way play.
