While the Summer Racing Festival has come to an end, the night racing season continues in Launceston on Wednesday night, and Brighton-based trainer Stuart Gandy looks to be taking the best bet of the night in the back of his truck.

Among the nine starters Gandy will travel to Launceston is promising 2yo filly Momentslikethese, who, for the first time, won’t be chasing Aristopolos.

Momentslikethese has been placed at all four starts, and each time the unbeaten Aristopolos has been the victor.

At her past three starts, including two at Listed level, the Elwick Stakes and Gold Sovereign Stakes, Momentslikethese has been runner-up to Aristopolos.

On Wednesday night, Momentslikethese (Tiger Of Malay x Mintha) will be opposed to just a handful of runners and drawing barrier one will be a hot favourite to score her first win.

If successful, she will edge Gandy closer to 350 career wins; the popular trainer currently sits on 346.

Gandy’s first winner was back in 2010 with Just A Geegee, and Gandy has enjoyed great success over the years with the Geegee horses, the most prominent of which, Geegees Mistruth, won the Mystic Journey/Vamos double at Group 3 level last season before being transferred to Melbourne to continue her career.

Gandy is known as a great mentor with young horses and, in recent seasons, has dominated the early 2yo races.

“I guess with the young horses, it’s keeping them happy and making everything enjoyable. You don’t want to make it a chore for them, the main thing for young ones is education, they go to school every day, but you have to mix it up with a bit of enjoyment,” Gandy told Racing.com.

“We train on course, but when we can, we take them to the beach.”

Last week at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale, MyRacehorse Australia paid $120,000 for a filly by Capitalist x Speedonova, and that youngster has been entrusted to Gandy to train.

She is the first Tasmanian purchase by MyRacehorse Australia.

The rail is out between seven and nine metres on Wednesday night, and with that in mind, on pace runners should have an advantage.

First starter Kion’s Kingdom, who was scratched last week after drawing wide, looks one of the best on the card in the 1220m maiden. Kion’s Kingdom, who won an Open trial at Longford last month, has drawn gate one in the second race of the night.
