Maher: Jimmysstar is the “perfect horse” to send to Royal Ascot
By Connor Scanlon
Jimmysstar’s part-owner Ozzie Kheir has plenty of options available for his star sprinter.
Giddy Up host Gareth Hall revealed that he spoke to Kheir regarding a potential trip overseas to Royal Ascot, but the part-owner wasn’t convinced.
Speaking on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up, Hall asked Jimmysstar’s trainer Ciaron Maher if he could convince Kheir to put the six-year-old gelding on a plane for an overseas trip.
Maher responded by exclaiming that the chestnut would be the “perfect horse” to send to Royal Ascot.
“He would be the perfect horse,” Maher said.
“A strong six (year old), like he's a testing six.
“His best trip is probably 1400m, so he would be the perfect horse.”
However, while Maher believes Jimmysstar suits an international campaign perfectly, the gun trainer admitted that the appeal of the $20 million Everest in Sydney is too strong.
“But it's hard – you’ve got The Everest sitting there,” Maher explained.
“It's hard (to do it all and) put them on the plane and get over there.”
With Jimmysstar likely staying in Australia for The Everest in the spring, he is currently $9 with Sportsbet to win that Group 1 on October 17.
