Tasracing's Friday best bets at Launceston (27/03)
By Matt Reid
Friday night thoroughbred racing continues in Launceston with eight races on the card.
The rail is at +7m after being at +4m for the program a week ago. The track is likely to be in the 4-5 range with fine weather forecast.
Best Bet
Race 3 – 2. Favourite Deputy
Favourite Deputy resumes after a two-start debut campaign, where he threatened to win a race, particularly the most recent, where he threw the race away by racing erratically in the straight. He’s since trialled impressively at Longford, spearing straight to the front and winning by a space. He finds a moderate maiden, hence the short price, but I think he will be winning.
Best Value
Race 1 – 6. Symphony Queen
An interesting opener given it’s a six-horse field, and they all raced against each other last start. Symphony Queen was on debut there, going back to the tail from the widest gate and doing her best work late to finish fourth. With natural improvement, I think her price ($9) is far too high compared to those at the head of the market. I’m hoping she can be better from the barriers than her debut run and give us a sight at each-way odds.
Best Roughie
Race 4 – 11. Wild Nights
Wild Nights ran a bottler first-up at $41, finishing second to Obviously Good, who has since won again, and her three runs since then have been full of excuses. Last time out, she bombed the start, which isn’t a trait she’s consistently shown in her 18-start career. With no weight on her back and a good draw, if she jumps cleanly, I don’t think she’s anywhere near a $41 chance.
