Racing SA's preview & best bets for Goodwood Day at Morphettville (09/05)

Racing in Adelaide on Saturday takes place at Morphettville.

The feature races is the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m).

Lincoln Moore from Racing SA has provided his best bets and a full rundown of each race.

RACE 1 - 11:47AM Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap (1800 METRES)

VANITEUX was a Strathalbyn winner four runs back and has been solid in three placed runs since, the latest saw her beaten 1.31 lengths behind Mystic Wonder on the Parks. She draws out but should give this a shake. BOLTED IN made good ground from the back when beaten 1.73 lengths in 4th behind Wine Barron here last week. He should be in the mix. ROUSING REFRAIN made good ground in the race beaten 3.07 lengths and draws the inside, SMOTHER draws a good barrier and is another who got back when beaten 3.46 lengths behind his stablemate in that race here last week.

RACE 2 - 12:22PM Carbine Club of South Australia Inc. Handicap (1050 METRES)

SASSY FOR SURE has been hard in the market at all five runs since coming to SA and was beaten 2.06 lengths in 4th behind More Than Hope and then beaten 3.21 lengths behind Regal Secret here before getting back when beaten 8.77 lengths behind Vangogh Bankcheque last time. She draws out but should make her presence felt in a race like this and they get a big price which didn’t last long. MISS CHEVALIER is a 3yo filly on debut for Will Clarken and won a recent Oakbank trial by 11.46 lengths and draws a nice barrier. Stablemate JUXTAPOSE has been runner-up at her past two, the latest behind stablemate Brand Her Bold. GLIDING LIGHTING is first-up here and is a winner fresh. She won a recent Pakenham jump-out and was a Cranbourne winner in January. BRED ‘EM ALL was a $5 chance when a winner on the Parks on debut beating Odessa. GOLDEN HORIZON was first-up in that race and beaten 4.47 lengths, he’s two from two second-up and can give this a shake. CAPTAIN HAPPY comes through that race beaten 7.05 lengths. SHOCAP got back in that trace and was beaten 8.6 lengths. CARPE ASTRA beaten 10.02 lengths in 10th in that race but did win a Murray Bridge maiden three runs back. ROADKING comes off a Strathalbyn maiden win.

RACE 3 - 12:57PM Sportsbet David Coles AM Stakes (1200 METRES)

MARBLES is a $675k yearling on debut for the Price/Kent Jnr yard, she has been placed in three jump-out the latest at Cranbourne and draws a nice barrier. They also have PIAZZA on debut for the Price/Kent Jnr stable who was 2nd in a recent Caulfield trial. HEAT MAP was 4th in that race beaten 2.7 lengths. BLUE METEOR won two Cranbourne jump-outs before he was a $5.50 chance and beaten 0.7 lengths behind Ladhar at Pakenham on debut. Stablemate ICELADY is the second of the Ciaron Maher runners and was beaten 1.5 lengths in 2nd behind Wonderful Sky at Pakenham last time and draws out. HOWCANI RESISTYOU was beaten 1.5 lengths behind Crank at Terang on debut. JARBARDAR comes from Wodonga and was a $1.35 favourite leading throughout for a 3.63 length win over 1000m at Wagga. He draws out. BRAVE HUSTLER was $14-$8.50 and was very strong late beating I AM SPEED by 0.97 lengths at Murray Bridge. PORTARLINGTON was a Parks winner back on November 15 and took on the older horses last time when beaten 2.65 lengths behind Bouncing Beyond. Stablemate BREVITAS was beaten 3.93 lengths behind Rubare at Caulfield on debut. VANDAROSS has been good in all five runs and was beaten 2.98 lengths in 3rd behind Verzain in the G3 Breeders Stakes last time.

SELECTIONS: 12 MARBLES, 6 Blue Meteor, 4 Brave Hustler, 3 Portarlington

PLAY: Very tricky race and watching the market.


RACE 4 - 1:32PM Thomas Farms Centaurea Stakes (2033 METRES)

POLYMNIA was placed in the G1 Australasian Oaks here last year and looks primed for this. She was beaten 1.71 lengths behind Pinito in the G3 Aspiration at Randwick and then beaten 1.95 lengths behind Machine Gun Gracie in the G3 Epona at Rosehill before she went back to the 1800m where she was beaten 0.8 lengths behind Rotagilla at Randwick in a BM94. She gets the winkers on from a middle gate and looks hard to beat. MATING CALL was brilliant winning the G3 Auraria stakes two runs back and then tried hard when beaten 0.95 lengths behind Panova in the G1 Australasian Oaks last time. She draws out and should be somewhere in the mix again. BRAVE MISS was beaten 2.31 lengths behind Gold Coast Belle at Caulfield before she came from the back and was beaten 0.3 lengths in 2nd behind Cilacap here in the Queen Of The South. She draws out and looks well placed again. MAISY was a $26 chance beaten 0.51 lengths in that race and she must be respected. PRIVATE LEGACY was a $41 chance and worked through the line well beaten 3.43 lengths in that race. This has been her target, and she won this last year off a similar set-up. ISUSPECTJEU worked home well fresh in that race. BROWN NOSE DAY GAL was brave up on speed beaten 2.06 lengths. AUTUMN SLIDE has been placed at her past couple at Caulfield.

RACE 5 - 2:07PM Sportsbet Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic (2546 METRES)

BOOMEROO won a 1400m Sale maiden three runs back and comes off a very good effort when she finished off strongly, beaten 0.64 lengths behind Impulsive Reaction in the G3 Chairman’s Stakes. The 2500m looks ideal, she draws a perfect gate and she should be fighting out the finish. Stablemate CUSHIONED won a 2000m Pakenham maiden and was beaten 7.05 lengths behind Panova in the G1 Australasian Oaks here last time out. OUI OUI MA CHIERIE comes through that race beaten 8.15 lengths. PANDA’S SPECTRUM is chasing three wins in succession. She won a 1600m Seymour maiden before winning a BM62 at Mornington over 2020m and should appreciate getting out further in trip. Stablemate SET ME FREE comes off a Moe maiden win over 2050m as a $2.50 favourite. I BELONG comes out of the VRC St Leger beaten 9.42 lengths behind Silvasista. ANGLING ANGEL was on speed and stuck on well beaten 3.15 lengths in 6th behind Impulsive Reaction. She’s still a maiden and should run well. FRINGES appreciated the rise in trip to record a 1.98 Class 1 win at Balaklava last time and draws well. AURORA RISE was 4th in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks behind Kazaru back on February 20 and can improve with the blinkers coming off.

RACE 6 - 2:42PM Hahn Cummings Stakes (Formerly R A Lee Stakes) (1600 METRES)

FINE FUTURE has won three of seven here and comes off a very good return to winning form when he found trouble but was still too good for rivals, beating SCANDALIZE, who was game running 2nd, beaten 0.61 lengths, while PUDDING was 3rd, beaten 0.82 lengths. CHICAGO STORM was 4th in that race, beaten 1.48 lengths; he draws a middle gate. WATADEEL closed off well, beaten 2.82 lengths in that race, and will appreciate the soft conditions. SCHEELITE won the G3 Shaftsbury Avenue at Flemington in March and then was well beaten behind Sheza Alibi in the G1 Doncaster. She led when beaten 2.4 lengths behind Von Hauke at Bendigo last time and draws the inside. ARRAN BAY made it two wins from his past three starts here, both in Listed grade when he led throughout and fought off Cash for a 0.41 length win here in the City Of Adelaide last time out. DEAKIN hasn’t raced since he was very good beaten 3.19 lengths in 8th behind Half Yours in the Caulfield Cup. He has a trial and jump-out under his belt but will be looking for further. SUPER LAD is the second of the Bieg runners and was $19-$15 leading throughout last week in a BM74 while he also saddles up TEARDROP ROTATION was a $101 chance when only beaten 2.6 lengths behind Cilacap in the G2 Queen Of The South last time and draws a nice barrier.

RACE 7 - 3:22PM Sportsbet Proud Miss Stakes (1200 METRES)

NAIFAH has been around the mark in some handy races, beaten 1.36 lengths behind Space Raider in the G3 Manfred at Caulfield on January 24 and was beaten 0.4 lengths behind Torsheen at Mornington last time. AVIATRESS is first-up and has won three and placed at three fresh runs. She won a Balaklava trial last month and is sure to be in the mix. Stablemate KARAVAS was well beaten first-up in the Listed Hills Railway but has won a jump-out since. NOT SURPRISED has won four of eight and comes off a BM70 win at Mornington as a $7 chance. She draws a good gate and is sure to run well. SIXTEEN REASONS comes off a slashing run when beaten 1.22 lengths in 4th behind Grand Larceny in the G3 Hawkes. She’s drawn the inside and is more than capable. BOSSY NIC comes off a good effort, beaten 1.65 lengths in 3rd behind Soft Love at Caulfield. SWIFTIE HARIET was impressive first-up before she was beaten 4.14 lengths in that race. KOKAKO was a $2.80 favourite, winning a BM62 at Pakenham last time; the stable has been on fire here in Adelaide, and she must be respected. FERIVIA improved sharply when beaten 2.9 lengths in 4th behind Tycoon Star in the G2 Tobin Bronze, she isn’t weighted well against the older horses but looks to be back to somewhere near her best. LINGANI was beaten 5.76 lengths behind Grand Larceny in the G3 Hawkes Stakes last time but will appreciate getting on to a soft surface. FLYER has a good fresh record and has been in the money in all three runs here.

RACE 8 - 4:00PM The Sportsbet Goodwood (1200 METRES)

TYCOON STAR was narrowly beaten by Regeneration in the Listed Redelva here over 1100m before he sat close, covered ground and held off a fast-finishing EXTRAGALATIC who won her previous two and gets in here with no weight on her back. REY MAGNERIO comes off a super effort, beaten 0.36 lengths in 2nd behind Jigsaw in the $5m Quokka at Ascot. TALKANCO comes through that race running 3rd, beaten 0.72, and did have an issue in the lead-up. GRAND LARCENY looks over the odds on the back of an impressive win coming off the speed to win the G2 Hawkes Stakes by 0.81lengths last start, beating local hope WATCHME WIN, who has been super in his two runs back, and the wide draw should suit his chance. NEW YORK LUSTRE was beaten 0.84 lengths in that race. FLYING FOR FUN should have won the G1 Sangster after flashing home to be beaten 0.10 lengths in 4th behind Geegees Mistruth. She draws towards the outside and is going to be strong late. ENRICHED finished last in the Group 1 Galaxy in Sydney last time out but was only beaten 2.06 lengths behind Marhoona in a blanket finish. DESERT LIGHTNING draws a good gate and made good ground from the back, beaten 2.35 lengths behind RECON in the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington last time out on April 18 and is a horse coming through the grades. SUPER SMINK won the G3 Irwin before she was beaten 2.55 lengths in 8th behind Geegees Mistruth in the G1 Sangster last time out.

RACE 9 - 4:35PM Canadian Club Handicap (1200 METRES)

PERSIAN CAVIAR is a daughter of Black Caviar who has won two of four and was a 0.75 length Sandown winner first-up from a spell. She draws a wide but has upside and should give a race like this a shake. GOLD SPIRIT was far from disgraced when beaten 3.57 lengths behind Super Smink in the G3 Irwin last time. He won his previous two and will be in the mix after a valuable 3kg claim. HYPERNOVA was good first-up behind Swiftie Harriet and then beaten 5.8 lengths in 4th behind an impressive Vangogh Bankcheque here last time. He draws a perfect gate and should take some beating here. HOOKED ON WEALTH was another who made good ground in that race, beaten 4.52 lengths in 3rd. He draws the inside but can be in the mix. I AM VELVET was a $2.80 favourite when beaten 4.67 lengths behind Clarence on the Parks last time. INVERTATIONAL draws out and has been racing well and was beaten 0.21 lengths in 2nd behind Bouncing Beyond on the Parks. ORTHIE’S BOYS is a watch, making his SA debut coming out of some handy NSW races and was only beaten 1.42 lengths in a BM72 at Canterbury three starts back and gets William Pike to ride.
