FLEMINGTON
Race 2 | 2. Miewa
Not sure he loved Mornington and he didn’t have the luck to build up and give himself a chance. Gets back to Flem and the 2000 is key. His only run over the trip he was in a blanket finish in a very comparable race in the Spring. He was really good through the line last start and he wont go around a horse until he has to. He ha trailed up well since that run! Brave Danza is the danger, this is tougher for him but he is well weighted. A few go into the EQ.
Race 6 | 1. Zahrann
First time in Australia and has been scratched a couple of times but has trialled up really well. Will need further but the speed isn't majorly obvious here so he will might push forward and control the pace. Goes well first up and good track is where he is at his best! This is a good race today and this bloke will get better into his prep but his form in Europe in G1 company gives him a sniff today, I think he will enjoy the space of Flem and he will be very hard to beat
Race 7 | 13. American Wolf (each-way)
The Adelaide Cup winner will stay all day and unlike the Monrington Cup wont have to go around a horse. Went back from a horrid gate and then was set alight and in the end was too big of a task. He will be put into a groove and bide is time in a race that will have some speed (Changingoftheguard/Sir Kingsford amongst others) He loves a good track and runs well here including a win over the 2800. There might be a couple who have a bit more class but this bloke runs the trip and will have last crack and is way over the odds and will go close!
Race 8 | 8. Losesomewinmore (each-way)
LOVES THE STRAIGHT!! Forget last start when drawn horribly and had to go back and never got into it. Took a little bump at top of the run as well that didn’t help. Drawn wide here means outside rail which is normally best spot! Loves firm tracks, 2nd up form is impeccable and did I mention the Flem Straight?? Also very well weighted and all of that equals a huge run and certainly over the odds at double figures!
SCONE
Race 3 | 3. Moscatel (win) / 1. La Gitana (each way) / Exacta 3-1 / Quinella 1-3
Was dominant on debut and even though Kenso can allow a leader to dominate, it was most impressive. Drawn sticky here but plenty of early toe will allow RK to get over and help her find her groove. There will be a little more pressure up front but natural improvement from debut race should hold her in good order.
The danger is the Vic La Gitana who is back today after a mini break. Ran well in 2 races and the Melb 2yo form early was stronger. Perfectly drawn to sit be on pace and hits a flat spot in races so expect the 1200m at some point to be what it needs. Has trialled up well and will run very well. Only 2 in the EQ!
Race 4 | 11. Nitro
Had a great first prep and the Plaintiff form holds up well for this! They will go fast here (Just Response/Lightning Glory) and it will be perfect for Nitro. Few out helps his gate a bit but it won't matter as he will drift back. Couple of nice trials including the last where he was pushed out shows he ha developed and he is classy. 1300 is a nice kick off point and he'll be hard to stop late.
Race 10 | 2. Linebacker
I do like backing the classiest horse in races and he most certainly is that here! From that gate I expect him to go and sit right on the back of the speed which is where he normally is when he runs well. He was there in the Doncaster which is tenfold this race. He has trialled well after the freshen up and he loves 1300 and a good track. He has the best jockey of the meeting on this back and he is 1 out in the quad and be too good for them here!
DOOMBEN
Race 5 | 2. Welwal
These conditions multiplied with 4th up to the Mile and a little freshen after a great win excites me for this. Jmac goes on and the wide gate with the rain could end up being the best part of the track. Needs a couple to put a bit of speed into the race (Vic Road / Cristal Clear) to allow a few the chance to run on. Been scratched a couple of times and now finds a race and conditions that allow him a chance to run his best and be mighty hard to beat!
Race 6 | 2. The Black Cloud
The Galaxy form has stood up a bit in Adelaide and this race is a tier below the G1. Drawn a little tricky inside as is going to need some luck but not many can deal with that than NR. Has had a little tune up trial since last run and the 1100 and the soft track will be perfect. A smidge of fortune in the straight and this will girl will dart through and win!
Race 8 | 12. Grafterburners
It's been a weird prep due to no fault of his own but rain missing a trial and then a barrier scratching makes it hard to get a read but what I do know is he loves 1200, the wet and 2nd up! Wasn’t too bad behind Tempted last start but the box seat probably didn’t help him. I like his set up here where he can get cover stalking the speed and build into it in the middle of the track! This is a really nice race as it should be but this bloke will be very hard to beat!
Race 9 | 8. Accidental Bid
This is a good 3yo's race and this is no different but its less deep than the SA Derby and this horse was all the rage before not getting a start. As a European, he enjoys toe into the ground and the 2000 win last start suggests he is tracking towards his best trip! He seems to be best when being prominent which might be hard from that gate and with a Derby beckoning id say getting cover is key number 1. In saying that, middle of the track will be best by this stage and he has ticked every single box so far here in Aust. The stable love him and that’s good enough for me to think he is really classy.
