Promising filly Momentslikethese will, in the next few weeks, get the chance to step out of the shadows of unbeaten juvenile Aristopolos.

At her first four starts, Momentslikethese was placed behind the unbeaten Aristopolos before breaking through for her first win in an April maiden.

With Aristopolos enjoying a well-earned break, Momentslikethese resumes in the $45,000 Alexandra Plate (1200m) in Hobart on Sunday. All going well, she will then line up in the 1400m Sires’ Produce a fortnight later.

The Stuart Gandy-trained 2yo could not have been more impressive at the recent Hobart Trials, scoring by almost three lengths and dashing home her last 600m in 34.87 sec.

“We’ve been very happy with her; she’s developed quite a bit physically since her last preparation.

“We gave her a good break; Stuart has done a great job with her, and we look forward to her running on Sunday. That race looks ideal for her to kick off her preparation,” Joe O’Neill from Prime Thoroughbreds said.

Despite drawing gate 11 in a field of 12, Momentslikethese is likely to start favourite in the set weights race.

“That’s ok; she’s a good filly, and I think that she will be able to overcome that (the barrier).”

With no Aristopolos in the field, O’Neill is confident Momentslikethese has Sunday’s opposition covered.

“I think people have got to realise he’s a very good horse and she was taking ground off him each time they met.

“She’s the best Tiger Of Malay filly running in Australia; she is the only one that has been stakes-placed, and she did that twice behind what might be a very good colt.”

After her tilt at the two feature Hobart races this month, O’Neill says he would be tempted to take her to Melbourne.

“We will probably go along the same lines as we did with Zany Girl last season. Look for a 1400m race in Melbourne, and then, if we are happy, we will nominate her for those better fillies' races.

“I think she’s a miler (1600m). I’ve got another Tiger Of Malay with Kris Lees, and we think that they are 1400m/mile horses. I think Momentslikethese will develop into a really good 3yo and 4yo.”

Five youngsters will make their debut in the Alexandra Plate. Only three of the 12 have won a race, Momentslikethese and the Leanne Gaffney-trained pair Valley Star and Buzzoffski.

After missing last week’s Devonport meeting through injury, jockey Troy Baker returns.

Again, it’s an early start for the nine-race card with the first set down for 11:07. Matt Reid and Colin Mcniff will have all the action from the track on Tasracing Live.
