CAULFIELD HEATH
Race 1 | 5. Commit
Was taken back when slow away and stormed home last start in a race that has form out of it. His win on debut was tough when wide and he is drawn really well to be closer today. Stays at the 1200 which is a plus and the dryer track isn't a disadvantage. Will be very hard to beat!
Race 2 | 6. Botanical Boy
I think the positive draw will have Jamie Mott be proactive and stalk the speed. Up to the 1500m second up is a plus and a reason why he run better this time stripping fitter than previous runs. His run last start was great where he made a run with Touchdown and after being left a little in his wake took ground again late. A drying track won't hurt and with a little luck from the good gate he will be very hard to beat!
Race 5 | 5. Behaviour
Really nice drawn to sit off the speed of which I expect there to be a bit (Nordic Strike/Jacks Ice/Bevy ect) and staying at the 1100 he will be able to absorb it. The drying track helps and his run last start pushing Tennessee Bound in a tougher race is good enough for this. Fit horse and although carrying a little more weight, its not enough to slow him down in this grade.
Race 7 | 3. Angland (each-way)
I backed him last week and I thought he was good. Thought he would go forward but didn’t off a slow tempo but still warmed up late. The pace today will be faster and he might be in it. He gets up to 1800 which works and the soft tack works. He has won fourth up and he has won on the Heath before. His prep reads worse he has run and he is way over the odds here.
Race 9 | 9. Currawood (each-way)
Comes out of the same race as Angland and had zero luck stuck wide. He also isn't a heavy track horse so I expect him to be a lot better today. The firmer track is a win and the little distance rise is a win. Has won second up and no doubt his best form albeit over a little longer in Europe is up to this. This race has a bit of depth and I'll have a few to round out the quaddie but I expect this bloke to be very much improved and run really well at odds.
RANDWICK
Race 4 | 1. Masoun
Better gate, better weight (thanks to a Siena Grima claim) and probably a more suitable drier track has me thinking this bloke will turn the tables on Le Troisir rom last start. His best Euro from is at these staying trips and he is fit as good be now. I'd say they will go forward in the run with him and try and take luck out of the equation. Even staying race as always but it's this bloke's turn to win an Aussie race.
Race 7 | 14. Boniface
Has no weight on the back and I am hoping its third time lucky for my pocket with this bloke. The drying track also gives him an advantage over the fave to turn the tables. He is the perfect map horse and fourth up for the first time will have him fit as he can be. There doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of speed so maybe a surprise tactic by TS and go on pace might be in play. Tazima will box seat with J Mac going on but I think Boniface will be able to finally beat him home. Elliptical will also run really well on a firmer track. Back it for top four.
Race 8 | 7. Gangsta Granny
This is a cracking race and plenty of high quality horses are back. I think this girl who never runs a bad race and gets the lovely setup today is the one to beat. Inside gate, Tim Clark, drying track and the first up freshness all work for me. She has trialled well as per. Her first up win last prep was in a nice race (not this nice though) but she did it from a wide gate. Favours galore today. Ninja will be on pace but I think he needs 1400 to show his best. Napoleonic has residual fitness but tricky gate and I think Angel Captail's best is over 1400. It all leads to me having the Granny as my best of the day in Sydney.
Race 9 | 1. Mareth
She ran really well in good races last prep and she always runs well resuming. The 3kg claim is a win and needs some cover and into the groove. Speed is pretty decent so finding a spot in the run shouldn’t be an issue. She is a quality mare and will be very hard to top.
