Ben, Will & JD Hayes are set to saddle up a number of red-hot chances at Caulfield this week, with Hard Kick lining up in the Vain Stakes, looking to make amends after a disappointing first-up display at Flemington.

Evaporate also returns first-up in the PB Lawrence from an awkward outside gate, while Arkansaw Kid looks ready to peak second-up in the Regal Roller.

Speaking on SENTrack & RSN'S Giddy Up, Will Hayes provided an update on Lindsay Park's chances this weekend.

Hard Kick

Hard Kick will be given the chance to put a disappointing first up effort behind him when he returns this Saturday, with the stable encouraged by what they have seen from him since.

The three-year-old All Too Hard gelding is currently $5.50 with Sportsbet in the Vain Stakes, where he will face the bend for the first time.

There were big expectations surrounding Hard Kick when he stepped out in a two-year-old race down the straight first up, but he failed to produce the performance the stable had hoped for.

“Obviously there was a lot of hype around him first-up in the two-year-old race down the straight and he didn’t go as the stable expected," Will Hayes explained.

“We just put the first-up effort down to him getting a bit fresh and doing a bit wrong.”

Since then, Hard Kick has returned to the trials and impressed in a jumpout, giving the stable plenty of confidence heading into his next assignment.

“He’s been back to the trials and his jumpout was super. He’s given us no reason to doubt him, he’s drawn well with a good jockey on board and hopefully he can get it right this time.”

Evaporate

An inside gate may have been preferable for Evaporate, but the stable remains confident the gelding can still put himself into the race, with Blake Shinn expected to roll forward and allow him to find his preferred rhythm.

The stable believes Evaporate is at his best when able to dictate or race prominently, with restraint potentially working against him.

“We’d be very confident if he drew a better gate, but in Blake Shinn we trust. He is a horse that runs his best when he bowls forward; if you try and hold him up, he tends to over-race.”

Evaporate is currently $6 with Sportsbet in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes.

Arkansaw Kid

Arkansaw Kid rounds out the stable’s leading chances, with conditions expected to suit and a strong second-up performance anticipated following excellent work at home.

The stable has been particularly pleased with his preparation and believes he has the right setup to produce a big performance.

“He gets the conditions to suit and he is one of our best chances on the card. His trackwork has been super, looking forward to seeing him second-up.”

Will has included all three horses in his $100 staking plan, opting for a $50 three-leg each-way multi to guide him through the day.
