WA star to target Golden Eagle
By Jasper Cormick
Daniel Morton’s star King Of Light is set for an almighty preparation that could see him venture away from Western Australia.
Morton joined SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up to discuss the promising Western Australian horse's preparation and aims for the spring.
“(We have) obviously high expectations, I am very happy with how he has had his prep.”
“I am always pretty ambitious, if he goes as good as I expect, we will look at getting him across to Sydney and a Grand Final being a Golden Eagle.”
The talented Western Australian gelding will likely only have the one run at home, before the move.
The $10 million Golden Eagle is run over 1500m which looks to suit Morton’s star.
“He was very effective at the mile when he won the (Western Australian) Guineas," continued Morton.
“I’d like to think he is going to come up for us.”
Hall asked whether the plans would rule him out for the Western Australian Summer Carnival.
“Never say never… That’s another bridge," Morton stated.
“First and foremost, we will look to see how we get through Saturday and we will let it play out after that.”
King Of Light will go around Saturday as a short priced at $1.55 with Sportsbet in the Idyllic Prince Stakes this Saturday at Belmont.
On SENTrack & RSN’s Stable Mail with Gareth Hall, Morton opted to put his $100 straight on the win at the short price.
