Where to next for Angel Capital after poor Memsie?

By Jasper Cormick

Yulong’s Head of Racing Danny Rolston provided an update on Angel Capital after a disappointing outing in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes last Saturday.

The sprinter finished a nearly six length 10th in the feature at Caulfield where he never found speed on a tough track.

“He just didn’t get his feet into that ground,” Rolston said.

Looking towards the future, the next step for Angel Capital is uncertain at this stage.

“Chris (Waller) will find another race for him fairly shortly,” Rolston added.

The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and the Manikato Stakes (1200m) are the two races that will likely appease the Yulong ownership of the stallion.

If Angel Capital is to continue his prep in a Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes it will take place on Saturday, the 19th of September at Caulfield under open handicap conditions.

He is currently priced at $8 with Sportsbet in the futures market.

Whilst the weight for age Manikato Stakes will take place the following week on Sunday the 27th of September at Caulfield Racecourse, away from the usual home at Moonee Valley.

Angel Capital is priced at $11 with Sportsbet similarly in the futures Manikato Stakes market.

Waller will set the 5 year-old up in a race to reignite her form as one of the most promising sprinters in the country.

In the more distant future looking towards a potential grand final, Rolston mentioned the possibility it still obtains the Yulong slot at the 2026 TAB Everest against the superstar Ka Ying Rising.

“He did run well last year in an Everest and we have a slot; he is still in that conversation,” Rolston discussed.

“(But) obviously he is going to need to lift on what he did last Saturday.”

Currently, Angel Cpaital sits at $21 for the TAB Everest on the 17th of October at Randwick with Sportsbet.

It will be a fascinating watch to see which way Chris Waller and Yulong Head of Racing Danny Rolston position the stallion.
