CAULFIELD
Race 1 | 5. Regal Lion (each-way)
This bloke is way over the odds since he should have been much closer resuming to the winner (no luck in straight) who is the fave here today. He will need a little luck from that gate so fingers crossed. He meets Veyepee 2.5kg better at the weights as well. He always runs better second up and on top of the ground. He will appreciate getting up in trip! It's an open race but he most certainly shouldn’t be $35 when the fave is $2.80. He is way over the odds and a nice each way or more places bet. (T4 $4.35 / T5 $3.25) both value.
Race 2 | 2. Moana Spirit
Was really good early in that first prep before pulling up lame in a really good race. Drawn perfectly to allow the speed to unfold in front of her. There is a bit of speed which will work for her a little to allow her to get into her groove. She gets her first crack at 1200 which will work for her in her career but she needs to be able to do it today at first tine. That’s my only query with her today. Sequinned drops back from a tougher 1400m in Sydney but might need some give in the ground and from that gate I'm worried she might be stuck wide again so I am with Moana to run really well.
Race 3 | 1. Surfin' Bird
Was really good through the line resuming after hitting a flat spot over the 1400m. That makes me think the mile is perfect second up. Will be able to get across and sit OSL Savitri or control it if Jordan Childs can get to the fence. Eiither work in this field! She loves high intensity races and she loves 1600m. This is easier than what she went against in Sydney and her speed map works better than a few others in the market (On Display - bad gate). She loves the good track and she will take a mountain of catching. Really keen to have a splash here!
Race 4 | 12. Pinhole
Gets back to his favoured 2400m on a good track and they both work well. Future History, Campaldino and Sunset Park will ensure plenty of speed. This will allow this bloke to find his rhythm. He comes off a fast paced 1900m where he was strong late and that holds him in good sted for today. His aim I assume is to get into the Caulfiled Cup so he will have to win this to do that which gives him an advantage over other horses who are working towards a longer different goal like the Melbourne Cup.
Race 5 | 2. Point Barrow
Not a race I'm keen to dive into but expect this girl to be really good again. Her issue again is she will be back when Bridal Waltz is on speed. She is great second up and will take great improvement from that run and win. She beat Bridal Waltz who had an excuse or two and in that today a jockey change. Point Barrow is the girl I want to back if anything but it's my least desired race to get involved in today.
Race 6 | 8. Flying For Fun
Jigsaw deserves favouritism and will be really hard to beat but gate 1 does concern me a smidge so I'm going to look elsewhere to have a little bet. Flying For Fun was brilliant in a Group 1 in Adelaide without luck and talking bad luck she had a little bit of it resuming in a good race in Sydney last start from a bad gate. She stays at the 1100m with a much better draw and she always runs well second up, all are big ticks. Jigsaw will be hard to hold out and goes in the early quaddie but I expect Flying For Fun to get some luck finally and run a really nice race.
Race 7 | 6. Sheza Alibi
Maybe the best horse in the country. Can't back her at that price. I am putting Birdman in the quaddie in case she doesn’t run 2000m but that would stun me.
Race 8 | 5. Blind Raise (Best of the day / very keen)
He was brilliant last start and I think he has a lot more in the tank! Lovely gate and like last time he will go control this race. He will be really strong late. Warwoven will sit on his outside and this will get exciting early when they start to fire up. The Sydney depth is probably deeper but I think Melbourne has the superior miler in this bloke. If he does what I think he will today, I will be very inclined to back him in the Cox Plate at $17.
Race 9 | 15. Salty Pearl (each-way)
This is a very open Toorak but one that I think will run is this girl with the blinkers going on third up can run a really bold race. She has built into this towards the mile which suits her best. Drawn perfectly to have a nice run in transit and the good track is going to work in her favour. She enjoys Caulfield and she is lightly weighted. Her win in the Vobis Guineas in the autumn was a great from race (also had blinkers added on that day) and her set up today has her well over the odds. Stable (Maher) and jockey (Craig Williams) are flying I think she will run huge!
Race 10 | 11. Enxuto
He will get a fair way back from the gate but the speed will give him a chance. He was brilliant first up down the straight and has come back in good order no doubt. Good track works perfectly. He runs really well second up, 1400m is another tick and in an open race I think he will be very hard to hold out late.
ROSEHILL
Race 1 | 1. Felix Majestic
It has been a little while since this bloke has won but he always runs well and Molly Bourke with the claim the perfect gate and the ability to control the race is going to be very hard to beat. He gets a little swing in the weights from Alabama State and the 1400 works to his favour a little as well. Don't go overboard. But he gets the set up to today to break a long winning drought.
Race 2 | 9. Snowy (each-way)
I won’t be having much of a crack here at alll but I do think this girl is over the odds. Has been in great from this prep and loves the good track! Drawn lovely to stalk what I expect to be a fast pace (King of Dragons/Costalivin/Hip Hip). Fourth up to 1500 works and carries no weight after the claim. Each way at $15 is a nice play but even $3.20 top four is of interest. She will run well!
Race 3 | 10. Mister Rizz
Drawn way better than Starzintheireyes and that’s the reason I lean his way. Gets to 2000m third up and will have the perfect sit in run. He will box seat and not go around a horse until he has to (or maybe he wont need to). He is progressive and the one who I think will come on the most from the last race. I'm against the fave (Barrengarry) 1600m up to 2000m is a query but not a deal breaker but the jump in class is a worry for me. I'm having my first major bet for the day and I'm with the Rizz with a couple others in the early quaddie.
Race 4 | 2. Stormy Marco (REALLY KEEN)
Got beaten by the weight first up (I backed him) and was out sped and outclassed in the Golden Rose last start. Jumps up to 1800m which always felt needed and the aim and drawing wide isn't a concern as he will get back with speed on anyway (Scarole/Hilbilly). Good track is a plus, was decent enough at only third up previously and he just strikes me as a bloke who will love the trip he has been waiting for. Will out tough them late and I am one out in the early quaddie!
Race 5 | 10. Piedmont
Ran really well in the Ming Dynasty and that ticks the 1400m box. Has had a month to get over that but had a nice easy trial to maintain fitness in between. Better gate here so won't have to go back and circle them which had her out of steam late. Down in the weights and will present as the winner late and I think she will be. Revengeaence will have a lovely run and will be the one to beat IF he runs 1400m. That’s the concern for a couple of these and even though it and Plagiarism (will get an easier lead than the G1 last start) go into the early quaddie. I like the filly to be better over 1400m.
Race 6 | 1. Paradoxium (REALLY KEEN)
Really keen on this bloke who gets back to Sydney going and around a bend with the perfect gate. All that said he still belted them in Melbourne down the straight. LOVES a good track and won second up in that first prep! Satono Glow doesn’t go into my early quaddie even though she oozes talent. I just can't see her beating Para here from that gate and spotting too many lengths. Peyton is the danger! Form around Next Episode, St Gotthard and Under Focus is the right form. He is $30 so have a little each way play or even more places zing at him as he will run well here (as long as he gets in the gates, was scratched last time behind barriers) but all of my money and Multi's involve Paradoxium who I think will be too good!
Race 7 | 3. Attrition
I don’t expect Lindermann (odds on) to get it all his own way in front! If he does he will win but I can see Eliyass back a little in trip and drawn nicely going to annoy him! Attrition is one I think can be the benefactor sitting right behind the lead waiting to pounce. He loves 2000m and always runs well fourth up! He was pretty good in the G1 last start and the GT is perfect for him. He has won and then ran second in this race the last two year and I expect him to run well really here again.
Race 8 | 5. Sepals
Was really good resuming in the G1 and the freshen up and staying at his pet distance are both keys here! Should be able to find cover from the gate and get into his groove. He loves a good track and runs well also second up. This is really open race but this bloke comes out of the best form race and if he runs up to his Golden Eagle run last year (only Autumn Glow beat him home) he'll be too good here and I have had a bet accordingly.
Race 9 | 18. Sylph
No major crack in an open race but I have backed this girl before and think this race is a nice fit and she always runs well! She was decent resuming and her second up form stands up and I really like her getting to 1200m again. Zac Lloyd is flying and I'd like to see them try and use some early speed and be closer from that gate. She did that when red hot fave and winning on Gold Coast last prep. Got a few in the quaddie in a really nice race but will have a little splash on this girl.
Race 10 | 14. Kujenga (each-way)
I am going really wide in the quaddie but this mare has trialled up ok without being asked to do too much. Didn't fire a shot in the autumn but was really good in decent races prior to that! Chased home Autumn Boy and Sheza Alibi in QLD. 1100m might be a tad short but she runs well fresh and from that gate and with the claim meaning no weight, I think she can give a bold showing at $18!

CAULFIELD
Race 6 | 1. Jigsaw (BEST)
Resumes and is looking to string eight wins in a row. Has all the pieces and should jump lead win.
Race 8 | 9. Wolf Gap (value)
Has been the unlucky runner in both his runs this prep won by Blind Raise. Just put a line through last start and he can run top three.
Race 9 | 1. Evaporate (value)
Came close to winning this last year. Just forget he went around last start after burning across from an outside gate and he pulled up lame. Draws perfect to get the gun run and you can say this is his pet trip.
Race 10 | 16. Lord Penman (value)
Isn’t the worst here as he resumes and is at huge price. First up form is good and he has won four of his five over this trip. Draws perfect and should race in the first half, is ready to go off his trials.
ROSEHILL
Race 3 | 4. Starzintheireyes
Has come so close in his last two runs and he can make amends here for his narrow defeat as an odds on pop. Will get back in this small field and hopefully be too good for them.
Race 6 | 1. Paradoxium (BEST)
Defeated a handy field down the straight first up. All his wins have come fresh but he did race against the best two year olds last season. Draws perfect to bounce on the bunny and control the race. Jump lead win.
