Legendary jockey Damien Oliver has had his say on the 150th edition of the Caulfield Cup.

Ollie won the prestigious handicap four times himself, and now he has predicted the winner of this year’s race, which will be run at 5:15pm AEDT on Saturday at Caulfield Racecourse.

The retired hoop has tipped the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) winner Cosmic Crusader on top, who is currently the $4.80 favourite for the Group 1.

“It's hard for me to go past Cosmic Crusader,” Ollie told SEN Mornings.

“The way he won the Turnbull, it's always such a great lead-up race.”

However, Ollie noted that the WA horse won the Turnbull on a heavy track – a track condition which suits the Andrea Leek-trained gelding.

But on Saturday, the six-year-old will need to run on a good track at Caulfield.

Despite that, the legendary rider is confident Cosmic Crusader can hold off his opposition.

“The only slight caveat on that (Turnbull victory) is it was a heavy track, and he's won six out of seven on the heavy. He’s going to get a good track on Saturday,” stated the ex-hoop.

“But most of his dangers, he beat by 10 or so lengths and that sort of just sticks in my mind.

“Like I said, the Turnbull's been such a great traditional lead-up for it, so it's hard to go past him.”

When looking at the market for the Caulfield Cup on Saturday, Cosmic Crusader is the favourite, followed by Saint George ($7.50), Zahrann ($7.50), Wine Dark Sea ($9), and Half Yours ($11).
