The Melbourne Cup horses backed by Irish billionaire
By SENTrack
Irish billionaire JP McManus was not messing around at the Call of the Card for the Melbourne Cup.
McManus, who owns Trustyourinstinct and Goodie Two Shoes, unleashed on UK rival Hopewell Rock.
He had several bets at varying prices ($8, $8.5 and $9) to return $9.6 million on the George Boughey-trained gelding.
In conjunction with friend, fellow owner and punter Paul Byrne, the pair splashed more than $2 million on the Cup.
The duo also backed James J Braddock, So You Are, Point Of Law, Soul Of Spain, Zakouma and McManus’ pair Trustyourinstinct and Goodie Two Shoes.
