HAWKESBURY June 3

Inside Grass; Heavy 10

19 Heats – 1 x 1250m (Open); 6 x 1000m (2 Open; 1 Maiden; 3 2YO); 12 x 800m (2 Open; 8 2YO; 2 Maiden)

Few exceptions to a standard session on a heavy track.

A big Godolphin team added interest with several of their talented performers impressing with mid prep trials. A number of the better efforts in the 2YO and maiden heats came from horses who have been noted in previous trials.

HOW DARE YOU (James Cummings): Impressive winner at the Scone carnival showed he was ready to go on with it with a surging finish in his 1000m heat won by Iron Man (60.35; 33.68). Travelled midfield and always under a tight hold as he worked home between horses with his best work through the line.

THE BOOM BOX (Blake Ryan): Unraced Spirit Of Boom gelding produced the trial of the session to run away with his maiden heat over 1000m by almost 10 lengths in easily the fastest time of the morning (59.45; 33.63). He won his first trial last October and is just the type of runner Asian agents are looking for. He'll win his maiden if he stays here but the stable is known for selling their good trial performers to Hong Kong.

Among other impressive triallers were the good Saturday class performers RAZORS, PETREILLE, BANANA QUEEN and HANAU. Previously noted trial runners to again show good form included the heat winners FORTUNE, IRON MAN, SNEAKY PAIGE and REGIMENTAL COLOURS.

RANDWICK May 31

Randwick A Grass; Good 4

15 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 8 x 1050m (3 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden); 6 x 742m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 1 3YO; 1 Maiden)

Expect several big improvers out of this session.

MERCHANT LADY (Peter & Paul Snowden); Good things ahead for this promising filly. A lovely second in her 1050m heat (63.49; 34.51) in her first trial since February when she had her first two starts for a Gosford win and Canterbury placing. Worked easily from start to finish without being under any pressure to hold her ground.

SUMMER LOVING (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Still a maiden but has shown plenty with four placings and some solid efforts against the best fillies in spring Group races. Too sharp for her rivals in her 1050m heat (64.47; 34.29), sprinting away from them over the last 200m to score by almost six lengths. Seems a formality for her to pick up a win at this time of the year.

TO THE EXTREME (Ron Quinton): Never at full tilt to win her 742m heat under a soft ride in her second trial since her first prep late last year when she won a maiden at Canterbury. Right type to work through the classes.

Nice placings in open heats from some well performed runners including ASTERO, C'EST MAGIQUE (first trial for Chris Waller following stable change) and the import ELIYASS, a Listed winner in France with bright prospects.

Several 2YOs and maiden are sure to benefit from their hitouts and several can be expected to trial again. Keep an eye out for CINDERSEA, SCINTILLA, SCORCHING LEGEND, STEP QUICK and YORKSHIRE.
