The four-year-old was piloted by Jordan Leedham and gave the Smythes Creek trainer something to smile about.

"It was really good, I think he can be a really good horse," Douglas said.

Driving trackwork might be in the past now, but Douglas continues to help out where he can.

"I still mix the feeds and fill the water buckets. I don't drive them anymore – my grandson does the track work," he said. "We are going alright.

"It makes me feel really good, it gives me something to do and keeps me busy."

With over 70 years in the game, Douglas tasted Group 1 success as a trainer back in 2008 when Trottn On The Ritz took out the Vicbred Super Series final for two-year-old trotters.

And he has continued to enjoy the sport through his sons Daryl and Glen.

"It's been terrific to see them (Daryl and Glenn) go around," he said.
