Harness racing’s newest partnership hit the ground running after multiple Group 1 winning mare Im Ready Jet took out the Aldebaran Park Trotting Mares Free For All.
First up since taking out the Group 1 Macarthur Mile at Menangle in May, Im Ready Jet was given the run of the race in the one out one back trail by Kate Gath before easing out three wide with 500 metres to travel.
Once in the home straight Im Ready Jet ($2.60 eq fav) lengthened stride admirably and appeared to have plenty in reserve in scoring by three metres from her co favorite Queen Elida and Exalted in a mile rate of 1:58.0.
Im Ready Jet was having her first start for Andy Gath after Yabby Dam Farms principal Pat Driscoll transferred the mare along with Call Me The Breeze and Revelstoke to Gath's Long Forest stables last week.
Gath said he couldn't be happier in the run.
"Obviously she had the perfect run throughout and was able to get the job done and Kate said she was really strong on the line," Gath said.
Gath said he is still learning about Im Ready Jet.
"I was pretty pleased with the effort as it's difficult to get a horse and only have it in your barn for seven days and know what to do," he said.
"She trialled well on Tuesday and came through it pretty well so we're happy with that going forward and it's nice to get a win for Pat straight off."
Gath said it was likely Im Ready Jet will be kept for races against her own sex.
"There are not many trotting mares free for alls but when there is one she'll be in it," he said.
"We will just play it by ear a bit as she's seven rising eight and done a terrific job already being a multiple Group 1 winner
She showed tonight that she still has plenty left in the tank, I'm just not sure yet where she goes after tonight."
