John Schell's tips for Coonamble: Sunday - 16th June 2024

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:35PM COONAMBLE ROADHOUSE/DUNSTAN FARMERS 2YO (1200 METRES)

1. Singing Star has only had two starts but she has looked good with a win on debut at Dubbo being followed by a second placing at the same track last time out. She's led in both her runs and should be in the firing line throughout again from barrier two.

Dangers6. Notabadchassis has had one trial leading into this debut and warrants respect. 7. Poisen Point looks to be a talented filly and she's been midfield in both runs since resuming. 8. She's All Sass wasn't beaten far last time out and should be given plenty of thought in this.

How to play it: Singing Star WIN.

Race 2 - 1:10PM RAMS MOTEL/BOSS AGRICULTURE SUPER MAIDEN (1600M)

1. High Charge has had four runs back from a spell and steps up to the 1600m in this having hit the line well enough over 1300m when last produced. Nick Heywood takes the ride in this and from barrier one he should get every chance.

Dangers2. Jed has been placed in two of 11 starts and comes into this on the back off a last start third at Dubbo. 5. Need A Miracle ran well at Gunnedah last time out and is worth plenty of thought in this. 7. Bling Empire has a good record and should run well here.

How to play it: High Charge EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 1:45PM MCKEOWNS ELECTRICAL/GT PENNELL TRANSPORT 3YO+ MDN (1200M)

9. Palentino Swinger finished fourth on debut at Orange, and in two runs since then she's been placed each time at Dubbo. She's ready to win now and should give this a shake from the good gate.

Dangers2. Big Shot Legend has tackled city grade races in his latest two starts and has the talent to give this a shake with the benefit of improvement. 3. Gigaton has been placed in two of six starts and wasn't beaten too far when favourite last time out. 11. Billabong Rose was midfield on debut at Dubbo and could sneak into the placings here without surprising.

How to play it: Palentino Swinger EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 2:20PM DAVE CARTER PLUMBING/GM CONSTRUCTION F&M CLASS 1 (1300M)

2. Electric Evie was placed in a couple of starts at Inverell and Tamworth, before racing on the speed and fighting on too well to score as favourite at Armidale when last produced. She has drawn wide here but can overcome that.

Dangers1. Rewarding Belle ran her best race in a while when finishing second at Wellington two starts ago. She was midfield last time out and can show up here. 6. Mean Girls comes into this on the back of a last start third at Coonabarabran and should run well here. 8. Allande struggles to win but is normally in the placings and is worth plenty of thought here.

Race 5 - 2:55PM SWANNY'S FOODS/PW CONCRETE CG&E CLASS 1 (1300 METRES)

3. Foxwell finally had everything go his way when he broke his maiden in good enough style at Gunnedah last time out. He looks to have found another suitable race here and there is no reason he can't go on with the job.

Dangers7. Governor General was a winner at Wellington three starts ago, and has since been just behind the placings. He is poised to run well again in this. 6. Dublin is talented at his best and if he can run up to his best runs he can give this a shake, while 5. Deelbreaka ran well enough when fourth at Parkes last time out and could sneak into the placings here.

How to play it: Foxwell WIN.

Race 6 - 3:30PM NORTHWEST VETS/FINCH ENGINEERING BM58 (1600 METRES)

6. Miss Italiana was a winner at Warren back in April then followed a fourth at Narromine with a victory in non-TAB grade at Brewarrina as favourite. She was since a close-up second as favourite at Coonabarabran.

Dangers: 3. Charlotting ran second at Wellington before winning at Parkes. She was far from disgraced when fourth at Moree last time out and should be primed to run well again in this. 5. Blue Steel has drawn the inside gate and comes into this on the back of a win at Quirindi and a third at Gunnedah. 9. Laisvas has been racing very well of late and looks to have a leading chance in this.

How to play it: Miss Italiana EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:05PM NUTRIEN AG SOLUTIONS COONAMBLE CANNONBALL (1100 METRES)

3. Compelling Truth is a well-bred gelding which has a good record with five wins and a couple of placings to his name from just 12 starts. He scored with ease when last produced at Dubbo, and that was on the back of an equally impressive victory at that track. Hie previous unplaced runs were in city grade races, and he looks well placed again in this.

Dangers4. Blitzar raced on the speed and battled on very well to score at Parkes in good grade two starts ago. He has a good record and has the ability to sneak into the placings in this company. 10. Small Town is handy at best and led them up at Gunnedah last time out when finishing third. 6. Transplant has talent and has been racing well enough of late to be rated a leading contender in this.

How to play it: Compelling Truth WIN.

Race 8 - 4:40PM SIPCAM AUSTRALIA/DHA WELDING CLASS 3 (1100 METRES)

4. Somerton Sniper has only had three starts, but he's won two of them at Armidale and Tamworth either side of a spell. He's still on the up and can win again here.

Dangers7. Island Legend has had three starts back from a spell and hasn't been far from the action in any of those runs. He was beaten just over a length at Tamworth last time out and warrants plenty of thought here. 8. Stockholm won two on end at Cowra and Warren late last year. He resumes here on the back of a third at Gilgandra and a fifth at Parkes. He should be primed to run well here. 9. Annyame won two on end at Wellington in April and May. She ran well against Compelling Truth last time out and is worth including among the main chances here.

How to play it: Somerton Sniper WIN.
