Ben Hayes says the Lindsay Park team always knew Ka Ying Rising was good, but it quickly emerged he was even better than anybody had hoped.

Hayes told RSN on Friday the star Hong Kong sprinter spent a few months at the stable before heading to Hong Kong, where he was rated the third best three-year-old in the stable, at the time.

"We were bloody wrong," Hayes said with a laugh.
