Greyhound Racing Victoria boss Stuart Laing says there is no reason to think the decision to shut down greyhound racing in New Zealand will impact the sport in Victoria.

He said while the NZ was "disheartening" for the code, the situation in Victoria was very different.

"We have got very good support from the racing minister, and also the opposition," Laing told RSN.

He says the sport has gained "a bit of momentum" in Victoria, of late.
