Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (G3)
Petrol Power followed his good win in the Placid Ark Stakes (Listed, 1200m), stepping up to take out this Group Three event. He settled nicely in second place and remained there until approaching the home turn. He moved up well and went to the front nearing the 200m and then battled back to win to score gamely by half a length. Shades Of Rio travelled well in sixth place, one off the rails, switched wide on straightening and ran on very well late for a good second. Moet Me was second-last in the nine-horse field to the turn. He went across heels nearing the 300m point and made good ground for third. The favourite Sujet ($2.25) led the field until half way down the straight but disappointed dropping out to finish eighth, beaten just under three lengths. *ANZ
