Swacadelic continued his consistent form with a strong finishing effort to win. Settled in ninth position on the fence behind an even tempo and enjoyed a soft run throughout. Oliver had to ease him into clear running with 250 metres to go, but once produced he finished strongly, with the good run throughout proving the difference late and scoring by three quarters of a length. Big Memory, now runner-up at his past three starts, settled second behind Mujadale but was disadvantaged when the leader stopped quickly at top of the straight and the jockey arguably went too soon and was let a sitting shot late. Don Doremo was given the run of the race one out one back racing on the back of Big Memory and despite being taken into the race could not overhaul him or the superior finish of the winner.
