Kimberley Star put up a good effort to win. She was slowly away and improved from the tail of the field to settle in sixth place, three wide without cover. She moved up nicely (three wide) rounding the home turn, hit the front at the 200m and then went on to win well. Intrepid Way again settled well back and was a clear last in the ten-horse field at the home turn. She went to the centre of the track at the 300m, took a while to wind up, then finished strongly for a late-closing second, putting up another smart effort. Fulfilled Promise had a nice trip behind the leader (Multitude), challenged at the 300m and kept battling on to take the minor placing. The favourite, Godolphin’s Stalwart was third early on before racing in fifth place (between runners) nearing the home turn. He eased into clear running at the 300m but took a while to pick-up and was then hindered before finishing (4.5 lengths) seventh.
