Ciaron Maher-trained two-year-old The Mob put up a really promising effort in winning here on debut, albeit narrowly. He showed very good pace from his inside barrier (1) and soon went through to lead. He held a good break at the 400m and held on gamely in the closing stages to score a narrow but smart win. Godolphin-raced filly Gridelin resumed after her promising second to Zamzam (Redoute’s Choice) on debut in a Two-Year-Old Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley on 29 January for another encouraging second here. She raced in fourth place, got to second at the 300m and continued to fight well, making late ground to just miss in a photo.
