After placings at four of his first five starts, the Peter Moodytrained three-year-old Roundabout broke through for his first win in decisive fashion. He began well, was wide in the early stages from his outside barrier (11) before settling in third place. He moved up nicely on turning for home, took the lead at the 200m and went on to win comfortably by two lengths. The favourite Duke Of Brunswick soon went to the front, held a good break at the 300m and battled on quite well when challenged before finishing second.
