Tony McEvoy-trained three-year-old Hey Doc scored a good first-up win, albeit narrowly. He improved along the rails in the early stages before settling in third place but was blocked on straightening. He got into the clear running as the leader sprinted clear at the 200m and he then came with a good late finish to grab a narrow but good win on the post. Lindsay Park-trained filly Perfectly Safe was third in the early stages but soon went to the front (when the leader Armedanddangerous ran off the track). She then steadied the pace (first 600m 37.38) prior to getting away with what looked a winning break at the 200m. She was then only caught nearing the post for the closest of seconds.
