Lion Red Plate (G3)

Type: OPEN

There was always a lot of speed and pressure on paper in this WFA field and so it was proven with the outcome unsurprisingly a run on finish. Ginner Hart had not won a race since September of 2013 and it showed falling in here by a nose after looking a moral at the 50m. He ran second in this race a year ago beaten a head by Viadana, a multiple G1 winner in New Zealand that has been demolished twice in Australia now. He got a nice run midfield between runners and improved all the time coming up to the home turn before getting through third and three-off turning for home as the vast majority of the field had compounded by the stage, Ginner Hart was going to win comfortably at the 50m but the runner up Fix came back at him and missed by a nose. The mare was on the speed early and then sat second in a gap before moving up ominously to challenge turning for home then taking the lead. On better footing Fix would have won for sure and her effort was the best in the race for sure as she was nearer the speed than any other to the home turn that paid a dividend. Whosyourmaster was a distant third and WFA seems to be his nemesis. He was midfield the early rush and improved through the field across the top to the home turn almost following the winner or at least that same pick-a pathway plan. The eyecatcher was Survived, the lone G1 winner in the field at WFA, that ran on well the run home after settling in the rear trio early. Spin Doctor recovered well after an awkward and tardy start and settling down last. The irony being when he was angled out centre track the run home to get into clear air he had to pole-axe his stablemate Little Wonder out of the way. Many poor runs in the race but two improvers out of it are Pizzazz and Ididit, with especially the latter having many more options this season being a mare. This was a far superior race and formline worth than the Listed event held two races earlier as at least several in this are not oldtimers with fences in the future and many should race over summer and the autumn at least.
